Hi everyone,

I have been a medical scribe for about two months at a regional private practice, averaging 16 hours per week. There, I scribe for only a single surgeon. Compared to a lot of the large scribe companies, it’s a really good opportunity.

However, through a connection, I am in the works of discussing a full-time research assistant position at a well-known medical school.

I like the scribe job, but the research job is definitely harder to come by, would pay me way more per hour, and would give me some good connections for applying to that school.

I suppose I already know the answer, but I want to hear other opinions about what may be best.

Thank you in advance!

A lot of schools are well-known. Besides that I think the research job sounds more appealing.

You listed all the reasons why you should pick the research job and no other reasons to choose the scribe job. Objectively, it looks like you should take the research position.

Fair. I just mean they’re very well known for their research. But you are right.

Yeah..... the only thing is I would feel guilty quitting after two months? The doctor I work with is very nice and always talks about how he gets to spend more time with his family now that I’m working with him. Kind of hard to not feel guilty.
