I have an interview coming up for Pikeville next month and I have a few questions about the school. I have the jist of how the interview day will kind of go from the other forums but I am not from the appalachian area and I am not sure if they view that as a bad thing. How is the student life at the school. Any feedback would be appreciated.

The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their correct name...Pikeville, not Pikesville.

Also, I am married and I am wondering if there are other students there with spouses. I am originally from a big city but have no desire to live in a big city and would love to be in a small town in the mountains while still learning to be a doctor. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm originally from the area (Eastern Kentucky) and while I don't think the school or adcom will have a problem with your origins, my suggestion for getting along with the locals would be to try to blend in as best you can. It's true: they don't take kindly to big-city folk. Since you'd be learning medicine in Appalachia, it's best you have some understanding of their medical needs so I would try to do some quick research on appalachians as a medically underserved population. I"m sure you'll be fine if you show a respect for all people, which I'm sure you do. Hope this is at least somewhat helpful.

I interviewed at Pikeville last month. I was accepted there too but respectfully declined. The main thing to get used to is the accent. I'm from southeast missouri and we have a simmilar one. Hearing medical terms in that accent was kind of interesting.

It's a good school with good faculty (I did some research). Class sizes are small and the facilites are decent. Good emphasis on OMT as well. The whole expierence was a good one. The interview day and the students were pretty laid back too. You see a presentation about the school with "dueling banjos" in the background. Other than that, there is not too much to tell. I would fly into tri-state and drive down from there.

Other than that I don't have anything else to say other than don't stay at the super 8. The people there are pretty unique...

Oh, and say hi to Angel in the library for me.

I was accepted into Pikeville. Days Inn is good hotel to stay in. Pikeville is a nice place to study because it is easier to focus there since it is isolated. There is not much civilization around. The town has 7,000 people and the county has 100,000 people. PCSOM is nestled in the Appalachian Mountains. This place is beautiful-if your into nature :luck: . I am not sure if I will attend this school. One must explore options before making a solid decision

I have an interview at PCSOM in 2 weeks!! Any word on how full the class is? I love Kentucky! 🙂

Congrats-

If you have an interview the class is not full. An interview here means you have a GOOD shot at a seat. Good luck, have fun here. PM me if you have any questions you think I can help with. I am a 1st year at PCSOM.

Just be yourself at the interview; unless you are an ass and then you will want to be someone else. If you got an interview then they are interested and will prolly be accepted as long as they think you are not a jerk. Hey they accepted me and i am an ass from CT. Please, no comments from the rest of PCSOM class of 2008.

No deal. I say we hijack this thread and make fun of you for at least a good 10-15 posts. Or if that does not work, we could always pick on me, or Aaron or...
