Hi guys,

Thanks for in advance for reading this. I have no clue what to do. I was waitlisted #3 at said school, but just got a recent email asking validity of my letter of rec's and my GPA. Apparently they were notified that my application could have been falsified, to which I denied, but they said that in accordance with school policy, they have to put a temporary suspension on my application to review this case. My application was 100% unforged and I have the transcripts, doctors/recommenders to prove my innocence. HOWEVER, the ETA on how long it will take for them to verify everything is 6-8 weeks and by then the people who were waitlisted would have already received an invitation or denial. I am seriously pissed at what happened and have NO IDEA how to get this expedited.
To not get into the drama, I did not expect my ex to go through with his threat about sabotage. My ex is an admission committee for another school I applied to. Long story short, he cheated, i broke it off, he got pissed and threatened to ruin me. I did not expect him to follow through. WTF. I would be seriously pissed if I had to re-apply just because of this. I have no way of proving this and I wished I was smart enough to record our last conversation on my phone.

This sounds serious. I would honestly seek legal guidance on this issue regardless of whether you get into med school this year. You can also get into med school next cycle. But for now, you need to clear your name. Get legal help.

I don't think legal help would help since I can already prove it myself. It's the fact it wont be proved fast enough. I got smacked in a stranglehold. -_-

There's always next year in case you don't get in anywhere this year. Let this be a lesson in life to be very careful who you trust. I wish you luck.

This is something where you really need to be talking to the offices at your undergrad and med school. Talk to whoever you need to at your undergrad to put in a rush for gpa transcripts, I would bet you could get them to hurry it up when they know what the situation is. Similarly speak to the admissions office, talk to the Dean, explain your situation and see what you can work out.

I don't understand how they could accuse you of tampering with your GPA since AMCAS goes through a lengthy verification process with transcripts that must be sent directly from your school. Ditto with letters. What is the schools grounds for these accusations?

Please consult a lawyer --

Was there anything about your relationship with your Ex that might paint you in a problematic light? Example: He was your PI or professor, substantially older (possible sugar-daddy), or otherwise in a position of power over you other than being on an AdCom? Because if there is, even if you can prove that your credentials are 100% genuine, I would not expect things to end well for you at Waitlist school, just because of the possible 'sleep your way to the top' angle... I'm not accusing you of this -- just asking if the circumstances support the perception.

Because for an AdCom member at one school to make accusations like this about an applicant is a very serious matter, and the initial response (I imagine) will be to believe the accusations until you have proved your innocence. Unless, of course, you have a reason why he would make something like this up -- as you do.

But if your relationship was not problematic, I'd suggest you speak to the Dean of Admissions at Waitlist school and state that you were in a romantic relationship with AdCom Ex for X number of months before things ended very badly and he threatened you with retaliation. That if the accusations in question came from AdCom's school, they should be regarded with suspicion since they were motivated by a spurned relationship, and that you can easily prove the relationship while they re-validate the remainder of your credentials. You might also state that you will be persuuing legal action for defamation, and that for this reason, you would ask that they retain all evidence of where the accusations came from so you can take appropriate legal action.

As to your accuser - I'd suggest you go on a rapid hardball counter-offensive and report him to his own school for unprofessional conduct. You may not be able to prove (right now) that he was the one who accused you, but presumably you can prove the existence of a relationship, can substantiate that it ended badly, and can prove that false accusations were made against you in a particularly targeted manner. If he is a snake, the other AdCom members will have some inkling of this... This is particularly important if there is a power differential between you and him.

I do suggest you consult a lawyer though. I'm not sure what the monetary damages will be, since you were waitlisted, but you can't let him get away with this --

This sounds very similar to a post that was made a couple of months ago, where someone claimed their interviewer was an ex, and that person was trying to sabotage them.

Agreed. If you have nothing to hide, then you should be fine.

I would just make sure that the Med School is actively following up on your application, and its not under some pile on a desk.
