I just checked my status page at Pitt and it has changed from the "you have an appointment scheduled" to "correspondence has been mailed on February 20th. Bad news? God I hope not.

This happen to everyone who has interviewed there?

quaker please let us know what the outcome is to this correspondence. I'm anxiously awaiting to hear anything from Pitt post-interview.

Thanks

mine still says "your confirmed date is..."
and it was updated feb. 22.

for the record, i interviewed in early november.

scary! keep us updated!

Okay, this is not meant to scare anybody. What I'm about to say is total hearsay, so take it with a grain of salt.

I still don't think that Pitt has rejected anyone yet post-interview. But I was at an interview this week, and I met a girl I saw at my Pitt interview a few months ago. She said she already got rejected there. I was like wha???? I'm still confused because I thought Pitt's final decisions will not come out until Feb. 28, at the very earliest.

alright, who's gonna call and ask tomorrow morning?

also, the my status check says updated 2/2202, which I thought was strange because it still has my interview info on it and that was way back in october.

nikki, would you go to pitt over mayo?

Timequaker:

When did you interview at Pitt?? I just checked my status page, and it still says "your confirmed interview date is...blah"

Mine says my info was updated on 2/22/02 on the BOTTOM...since NO ONE linked us...grrrrr

Here's the darn link!!!

http://www.dean-med.pitt.edu/Admis/AppStatus.taf

What do you think Scoob...could this mean that Pitt has mailed the final decisions??

Just for the record...

I was accepted to the MD/PhD program at Pitt a couple of weeks ago (they mail out MD/PhD accepts before the regular MD class)

I checked my status page and there is no indication of any correspondence sent, even though I have an acceptance letter from them. It just lists my confirmed interview date and says my app is complete.

I know that the MD admissions committee has to also vote to accept MD/PhD applicants, but nevertheless the acceptance process for MD/PhD is slightly different than regular MD so its very possible that this means nothing.

Good luck.

Hey,

I interviewed in January and have the message that a correspondence was mailed February 20th, and the info was updated 2/22.

Unfortunately, I haven't received anything in the mail yet so I can't help figure out what that means.

Good luck folks! I hope lots of you hear good news soon :)

Also got the same message, none of this correspondence stuff for me. I'm going to jump the gun and assume that those who got the correspondence are all of the same fate. Just what that fate is (reject, waitlist, hold etc..) we will hear shortly.

Does anybody else feel the sensations of anticipation and excitement from reading threads like this? Especially when you are involved/share the same fate?

USeF, I know what you're talking about...the anticipation is exciting but also torture! I just want it all to be over, NOW, whether I get in or not. TELL ME NOW!

I interviewed in the second week of November. Yeah I can't tell you what sort of anticipation I'm feeling over here. Barring an anomaly, that letter should get to my house by tomorrow or Tuesday at the very latest. Dammit. Test tomorrow and the day after. Can I study with all this weight on my shoulders?

Mine also says "The confirmed interview date is...blah blah." It was last updated Feb. 22.

Maybe they are going through the applications as we speak and are sending out accepts/rejections along the way? Sending out rejections or acceptances a week before the other seems kinda odd.

It's sort of like trying to solve a mystery. Okay, maybe not. I can't remember when acceptances were supposed to go out, but if it's something like acceptances don't go out until march, then mail now = waitlist/rejection right? But I'm just hypothesizing so nobody panic when going to the mailbox tomorrow. :)

I'm not so sure that the "date updated" field means anything. It seems like I have checked the status a dozen times since my app was complete in early September, and it always says it was updated on the last business day.

I seriously doubt that its a real update that often, I think its just an automated computer script that puts in the last business date.

At the end of tomorrow I'm predicting that all of us will have a "date updated" listed as 2/25

The adcom Dean once said that Feb. 28 is Pitt's target date. So far everything looks like it's going according to their plan.

The issue is not whether the page was updated on Feb. 22...the issue is what the whole "correspondence sent" stuff means.

gotta bump this one

look, I'm out of the loop, what does "bump" mean?

I just called the office. They said they haven't started mailing acceptances yet. Bad news for me.

NO YOU GUYS WITH CORRESPONDENCES ARE ALL IN!!!

i just called and she said that they just had their big admit day last wednesday and that the rest of the acceptances/rejections would go out in a week or two. call for yourselves and ask.

****. that's bad news for me: mine still doesn't say anything about a correspondence.

hmmmm these two reports from quaker and choker directly conflict with each other.

????????

goddamnit. this sucks. will someone else please resolve this issue and call the office and ask if acceptances have gone out?

the woman i talked to on the phone mentioned that wed. was their "big admit day" and that all other decisions would be trickling in over the next week or two.

Okay so I called again.

Me: "Have you mailed any acceptances yet?"

Admissions: "No, we have not"

Me: "Okay so I noticed that my status page changed. I guess that means bad news..."

Admissions: "Well we had a big admit day but it takes a while to stuff envelopes. You should hear within the next two weeks."

Okay so I don't know still. It could still be a rejection that they are stuffing periodically with the acceptances. I guess I'll have to wait and see. Dammit. :) or :(?

wait, im ssooooooooooooooooooo confused.

so, they HAD a big admit day, meaning that they all sat around and made final decisions. BUT they haven't actually SENT the admits yet?

goddamn im confused. i know that based on the correct information, we could prob. assertain the decision just by the date it was sent.

WOULD SOMEONE ELSE PLEASE CALL, WITH A CREATIVE AND PREPLANNED LINE OF EFFECTIVE QUESTIONING TO DETERMINE (not that quaker's questions weren't effective):
1) while admit day was last wed. were any of these acceptances sent yet?
2) what does the status check page reflect: the decision TO mail something, or the fact that something was actually sent already?

All of the stuffed envelopes are put on a pile; the secretaries change your status check page to "a correspondence has been sent" whenever your envelope comes up on the pile. So, maybe those people whose status checks have not changed are simply deep in the pile.

This is insanity!!! I'll call when my status page changes, but it still says, " your appt date is..."

Someone needs to call and determine when the Pitt ADCOM is going to start mailiing letters.

It sounds like if it says you have correspondance mailed on February 20th (which I don't), you GOT IN! :)

CONGRATS!!! This is my interpertation!

I do NOT expect to get in here. Let's just say I had the worst interview of my life here...ah well..it was fun though :)

I knew March was going to be a rough month (in terms of obsessively checking my mailbox), but it's still February!

they might be going through this stuff alphabetically...quaker does your last name start with a-c?

just trying to come up with a reasonable theory here...

My last name is in the first third of the alphabet. What I think is the most important and relevant question here is what is the definition of an "admit day" (the phrase for this past Wednesday, the 20th, that the admissions person I spoke to used). It sounds like a positive phrase but then I don't want to get my hopes up. I would hardly categorize my interviews at Pitt as wonderful. In fact I'd say my faculty interview was most likely negative.

Despite the correspondance message, nothing in the mail today -- so I can't solve the mystery!
:(

It seems like the "correspondance sent" message means that they made a decision on our file (waitlist or acceptance or whatever) but it will be a few weeks before we actually receive the letter.

Ah well... that just means more waiting. I thought I was going to get to figure out what the message meant!

Scooby--what happened that made your Pitt interview the worst one of your life? and how did you make it fun?

I had a great interview with a student there, but the faculty one was mediocre. She wasn't nearly as funny or dynamic as the student I spent the previous hour with, and it was hard to make the change.

Please say that you guys aren't implying that if your status page doesn't have the "correspondence sent" on 2/20 - that it's all over...

I had the same interview experience as carberry: great student interview, mediocre faculty interview. But I had a wornderful talk with Dr. Cutriss at the end of the day, in which he indicated my chances of being accepted. I know that isn't in any way a guarantee, but I'll be devasted to get the boot from them.

well i had two really amazing interviews, AND i was invited before i sent in a secondary, so i was sort of hoping/expecting that my app would be looked at favorably, but i DONT have a correspondance sent and so i am a little weary.

i had difficulty faking why i wanted to leave nyc. it sucks. if you interview out of nyc, every school assumes you'd never matriculate.

****. im running out of chances. i really need this one. :(

Locitamd and choker,
I *really* don't think that the correspondance message = acceptance and not having it means the opposite. Until there's something solid (since this is all mysterious, at least to me) I would just assume that they've made some decisions (maybe alphabetically or in order of interview?) for people but haven't had a chance to review all the files. I can't say my interviews were great, and I'm really not expecting an acceptance. It's really too bad they can't just put our status on the website, I sure wouldn't mind finding out that way...

good luck times ten, i hope you all hear good news soon!

Choker, I'm in the same boat as you...I really hope not having the correspondence isn't bad news...

WELL my last name starts with "W," and i have correspondence being mailed to me, so i don't think that the alphabet is playing an integral role here.

i don't really want to add to the stress, but i will put my $.02 in. i will say this: i thought my interviews were very positive. i won't go into any specifics, but i will be quite surprised if it's bad news. however, i have learned that there is no rhyme or reason to this whole process, so i am trying to assume the worst.

what do you guys think? and why the HELL does it take 5 days for a piece of mail to go 200 miles?!?!

THIS ISSUE CAN BE SETTLED IN A TACTFULLY PLACED PHONE CALL:
pitt: "hello"

you: "hello, i understand that 2/20/02 was your
big 'admit day' and am wondering if anything other than an acceptance correspondance was sent out on 2/20/02."

pitt: "no, only acceptances were sent"

you: "so if my status check says that a correspondance was sent on 2/20/02, then can i assume that it is a good thing?"

pitt: "i am not allowed to give decisions over the phone, but that would be a good assumption."

you: "is the status check up-to-date? is it possible that students admitted last wed. would not have the 'correspondence sent' message?"

pitt: "yes."

you:"great, thanks a lot"

pitt: "you're welcome. you have a sexy voice. do you workout."

you: "well..."

-SOMEONE PLEASE CALL PITT AND ASK. i tried this morning, but messed up_ i thought of these questions after. PLEASE!!!

geez another oddity:

their status website hasn't been working all morning long. maybe they are making final changes to all our files?

I think their status page is working now - however, it still says last update was on 2/22.

Argh...

HERE's an UPDATE:

I called a friend of mine that works in the admissions office and she told me that they had their admissions meeting(normally 2/28) last wednesday. also, despite what the website says, the correspondence did not go out until friday or even MONDAY in some cases, so we might have to wait another day.

could be accept, reject OR waitlist...who knows?

Wahoo and I were both emailed by our student interviewers to congratulate us on our acceptance to Pitt. Neither of us had the "correspondence sent" thing on the status page.....

I am declining my acceptance there..hopefully someone on here will get it.

I go to Pitt, and this is what I know: the acceptance letters have been printed out, and in case of acceptance, copies have been sent to the mailboxes of 1. Your faculty interviewer, and 2. your student interviewer. In most cases, you should hear from both of them, offering their congratulations. I do not know whether ALL acceptances from pre-February interviews are sent out in one batch. Most likely, you should hear back very soon, if you haven't already. If anyone has any questions about Pitt, I'd be happy to try to answer them.
