hey guys, the adea handbook says that for pittsburgh "ongoing shadowing is required at various places"...there were also some other schools that required shadowing "over a large amount of time"

for me, i did most of my shadowing in clumps, concentrated in last summer. does anyone know if for these schools that have these particular shadowing requirements, it would make a significant difference on my application? or should i save the money if i did not space out my shadowing hours in accordance to the schools' guidelines?

my impression is that these shadowing specifics should not be too important, as long as I have done the hours and gotten the experience. but just wanted to check with u all

appreciate it

I cannot speak for everyone. I got into Pitt and I had about 70ish hours of shadowing over about 1 year? But, they never mentioned anything to me about shadowing hours or requirements. Definitely call Pitt or email them and ask them. I have never heard of this and I wouldn't count them out just yet, they're a really great school.

Also, a lot of things that you read (even published material) is incorrect regarding dental schools. Never believe anything unless it comes directly from the school. Maybe on their web site or something, but if it's unclear...definitely call and ask them for a brief overview of the rule. It is worth the time and money.

I think it's something like 25 hours overall combined, or something like that. Pitt might just be one of the schools that doesn't have a set requirement, but just wants to see that you're out there. I'll see if I can ask Rose and see what she says.
