Hello all,

I just recieved notice from DMU-COM that my application is on hold. They did not specify a reason as to why though... I know it is getting late in the cycle and my hopes are becoming dismal, yet this last semester I retook Microbiology which I had previously recieved a D in. So I was thinking maybe they are holding it to see how my retake went.

So... as soon as I got the hold e-mail, I went and got an updated copy of my transcripts sent to AACOMAS.

If anyone can offer any advice or how this new submission of transcripts to AACOMAS works (like will I have to pay more?!) it would be greatly appreciated. Also, is this hold a bad thing?

Thanks guys!

You shouldn't have to pay more to submit your transcript. AACOMAS will update the schools ~1 time per week, so depending on when AACOMAS gets your transcript, it could take 1 week for the update to get to the new school, then whatever time it will take them to review your app.

The top of your application will state something like "Application Modified" or something to that effect. Other than that, it should be good to go.

As far as the hold, it's better than a rejection, if you want to know what the deal is, give the school a call. It sounds like DMU is pretty receptive to calls about your app.

With your GPA and MCAT, I'd start to make other plans.

Either do a post-bac to increase GPA, drastically increase MCAT, or both.

A hold is just leading you on at this point..Plan ahead for the future, and consider your current (and overall) debt load in the process.

First: CALL THEM! Ask why they put your file on hold, make sure it's about the grade and not something else. While you do that you can see if they'll let you know the chances of getting an interview at this point in the season (i'm pretty sure it's not too great, but don't quote me on that).

Also, DO schools tend to be more forgiving as in, if your GPA is high and MCAT not so great they'll consider you and vice versa. Of course those with good solid scores all around have a good chance too. With that all being said you're not sitting in a very good place. Mediocre at best GPA and average MCAT. You need to pull up your GPA (both science and non-science) and/or re-take the MCAT and get a higher score for better chances next cycle (if it doesn't pan out this time).
