Just wondering if you guys have ever played a musical and if you still do?
do you also listen to classical music because you have?

I've been playing guitar for 12 years, but classical isn't usually what I listen to. I definitely appreciate it, though. My bf is really into Mahler, so I overhear it often.

Saxophone

I do like classical music as well as jazz and have a bunch of it on my ipod. Unfortunately this doesn't look too cool when your ipod is being used for music at an event and someone changes from the playlist you had it on to regular shuffle and the music goes from LMFAO to Take 5...

I've been playing violin for 20 years 🙂 I adore classical music and playing fairly regularly.

Yep, I've been playing French Horn continuously since I was 13, so 12 years at this point. I played through college and found a volunteer group in the city where I worked before coming to medical school. Now I'm a part of my university's orchestra, and I hope to continue playing with them 2nd year. 3rd year is going to be rough for my music, though. Hopefully I can find a low-commitment outlet to play with.

Saxophone. I've found it harder to routinely practice this year because I live in an apartment and am extremely self-conscious of being overheard by the neighbors. I've been playing a musical instrument for about twelve years, and saxophone for about nine. I'm not that naturally musical, but it's fun and relaxing.

As to listening to music, I love classical. I guess my preferences would be baroque and romantic, though there are some more modern composers I like (Prokofiev, Stravinsky). And in undergrad I started getting into opera.

10 years of choir, 2 of Flute and Viola. (I played for credit in high school.) I don't listen to classical frequently, but sometimes it's nice.

Piano for 15 years, classically trained. I also sing and had thoughts of being a vocal performance major. Currently I'm singing with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for their performances this weekend.

As a poster had said above, I too am looking for low commitment outlets for musical expression. I'm also thinking of starting an A Capella group with some fellow classmates.

I also like to record during whatever free time I have and have a basic studio set up at home.

As for listening to classical music, it's almost exclusively what I listen to, other than some selected oldies.

I've played clarinet since I was 9, and this past school year (2nd year) was the first year I didn't have somewhere to play. I tried out the university orchestra during 1st year, but it sadly wasn't worth my time (very small orchestra, music was much easier than what my university orchestra played). I really would like to join a community group during 3rd year, but I don't know if I could make the commitment, since so many of our 3rd year rotations can be outside of the city.

I listen to classical music, but not while I'm studying. I start paying attention to the music too much, haha.

Been playing violin and viola for over 20 years...I have been extremely lucky that my school has a great orchestra for health professions students. We rock! And I also met my best buddy playing violin during med school.
