Hi,
Thanks for your thorough advices! Also can you also look at my stat and determine my chances for medical schools?
Here is my stat:
Vietnamese ; probably qualify for SES disadvantage due to growing up with financial difficulty (don't know if it helps)
University: University of Nebraska-Lincoln (graduated in December 2015)
cGPA: 3.40 (striving for a >3.5-3.6 from here until Spring 2019 since I'm going back for Fall class for GPA repair).
sGPA: somewhere close to 3.4x (I know... is bad... if everything goes well I should be able to get >3.50 after Spring 2019)
MCAT: have not taking the MCAT yet... planning to spend 5-6 months study for it... aiming for above 510; please tell me roughly what I need to aim for to make MD possible
Degrees: Biochemistry and Biological System Engineering w/ emphasis in biomedical engineering (this is partly the reason for my low GPA)- I did dual matriculation double degrees and overload my semester with 21 hour credits once... 🙁

Research Experience
Volunteer in a research lab at University of Houston (Biooptic) Summer 2017 (Everyday from 10AM-4PM; from begin of June to end of July)

Volunteer:
Vietnamese Student Assistant (Officer: 2012-2015): ~46 hours (community, club activities,
Observation Unit in a hospital this Summer 2017 (yeah... I just start)
Doing more volunteer now (volunteer at Alzheimer people home)

Work:
Parking attendee during my Sophomore - Junior year
IT student assistance - Junior Year
Specimen Processor (Full Time: 1 year)- 1 semester of Senior year (full time for that also)

Teaching Assistant
High level engineer course (3xx level)
Biology I
Hopefully do well for Anatomy (Anatomy I took is UNL Anatomy which I heard is a hardest class in the nation) this semester and apply for TA position.

Reason for my low GPA in which I can address
Take too much courses in one semester once (22 credits)
Take too much courses in summer (13 credits)
Take high level chemistry courses for chemistry major 🙁 (Ochem I and II got C+)

Got at least 3.7-3.8 GPA on all my courses last 2 years on colleges; will aim for As from now on... at least 67 credits to raise to 3.6 GPA
On track taking 20 hours next semester and aiming As for those also

Again, thanks for taking your time. I hope to get clinical shadow and more volunteer experiences with the time from here until 2018 cycle. Please let me know if it is possible to apply 2018 cycle. Here are my choice schools so far:

UNMC

Creighton

Come back when you have an MCAT score and then we can best advise.

Hi Goro

Thank you for your feedback. I will take the MCAT on June and will keep you all update on my progress. Here are the update since the last time I posted:

cGPA: 3.493 (all A and A+ for 31 credit hours since the Fall of 2017; this Spring I think I will have all A+ for 20 hour credits phew!)
sGPA: 3.6xx (not sure but I took half of the 31 credits (15 or 16) science courses this previous Fall and this Spring)

Future GPA repair: planning to take 8 hour credits this summer and 15 hour of hard core science this Fall 2018 (biology of virus, immunology, and molecular genetic). Will planning to take Spring 2019 for 15 hour credits (molecular biology, cancer biology, etc.) as I am planning to get 3.6 GPA

Volunteering: amassing around 340 hours of clinic and 251 hours of nonclinic
Shadowing: so far is 23 hours as I am trying to search for physicians that have availability for me to shadow

I know MCAT is important for SDN recommendation but I hope that you guys could give good advice on proceed from here in regard to taking more courses? or research position?

Again, thank you for helping me out with my stat and I will keep you guys updated once I took the MCAT.
