Hey everyone 🙂...I am having a lot of trouble getting a good score on my PCAT because it has been about 3 years since I have taken Bio 1 and I have yet to take Bio 2, I was planning on taking it next semester. I am assuming most people have taken Bio 2 by now hehe (I've been procrastinating I guess hehe). Do you think I can buy a Bio book from like Half.com or Amazon and teach myself like the chapters that are covered in Bio 1? I really don't want to retake it if I can do it on my own. If so is there a book any recommends? Or any other suggestions?

I just spent over $1,000 applying to 13 pharmacy schools, but I am not going to get in with the PCAT score that I have. I need to figure out a way to score better while also working 25 hrs a week and taking physics, calc, and a&p 2!

What was your PCAT? A bad score on the biology section isn't likely to bring the entire score down. If you got as bad a score as you're implying here, then it's more than just Bio that you need help in.

I think you'd have been better off investing that grand in a course like Kaplan, rather than applying to a ton of schools before you even knew what sort of PCAT you were going to have. If your score is really that bad )composite below 50), then you've already blown that $1000. Take another grand, get into a PCAT study course, and wait for your scores to come back before you drop another ton of money on applications to schools that won't even consider you.

So your other biology classes didn't require you to take two semester of general biology?

Nope, nothing that I have taken yet at least. I wonder about micro tho? I didn't think of that actually.

You don't need to retake Bio1. There are professors who offer PCAT Prep Courses throughout the country for about $500. Those are very helpful and contain what you should know about each section.

Use the Kaplan book for the PCAT Bio. While the rest of it sucks, the bio section is pretty comprehensive. If you bought a bio textbook I think you would spend too much time studying unimportant details. If you feel the Kaplan book doesn't give you enough detail to understand the topic fully, use Google or some of the AP Bio review books available at bookstores.
