I don't know where else to go. My upper left molar is throbbing and it just wont stop.

I started when my old dentist filled a cavity a while ago. Pretty much immediately after the tooth was very sensitive to cold. Eventually, hot would both it as well.

A few days ago, What I would call minor toothaches appeared on that tooth. Sometimes the pain would spread to other teeth on the left side (even bottom teeth). I purchased some Orajel and then the fun began. It worked great for about 30 minutes. Afterwords the one tooth started hurting worse and the tooth became now sensitive to pressure ("wiggling" the tooth hurts, but before the Orajel I could do whatever I wanted to it, so long as it was cold/very hot).

The next day (now) the pain is worse. It's all focused on the one tooth and I cannot sleep. I've taken a ton of Ibuprofen but it doesn't seem to help. I have no dental insurance and I don't know what to do.

A possible contributing factor is my wisdom teeth. They have been growing in for quite some time now (sideways on the top, normal on bottom).

What the heck do I do? I feel so helpless.

One specific question I would like to ask is, is it alright if I wiggle the tooth a bit? It hurts but it's a good hurt that kills the other pain.

I'll bet of you try the pre-dent forum you will get even better advice.

It was sensitive to cold at first b/c the dentist accidentally drilled thru the pulp horn in your molar, meaning he drilled too deep past the decay and didn't realize it, and w/e that got into the pulp caused inflammation, possibly infection...

later on when you felt the pain by wiggle and pressure, it's because the infection/inflammation has spread up and out your pulp, outside the root, and it could spread to other areas. You need to go back to your old dentist that did the original work and tell him of your situation and you need to do this before you lose all sensitivity to temperature on that tooth, b/c by then that tooth will most likely be dead, meaning you're gona have to get extraction/implant = mucho $$$

Sorry this is not the fatwallet 'free deal' forum. Paypal me $167.29 and I'll email you back the solution to your misery.

Hmm maybe this post was misconstrued. I am simply asking if anyone has an advice, temporary fixes, ect that can help me until I can get to a dentist.

Why didn't you call your dentist back immediately after? What did he say? Why couldn't you just walk into any other dental office?

I wander if he put a fat wad of composite in there in and cured it in one fill? Composite shrinkage could have caused extreme pressures on the tooth and made it sensitive. Either that, or he did hit a pulp horn. Either way, you have to go back to that dentist, or at least another dentist. Don't let pain get in your way.

I believe Chris Rock would recommend that you rub some tussin on it!

I suggest you temporize this. Very easy process. First, stabilize your head by placing the palm of your hand against the rear/base of your skull slightly above your neck. Grasp firmly and tug gently. Repeat until a bright light is seen. Then go to a phone and call your dentist. Try to schedule an appointment as soon as you can.

I didn't go back to him right away because it has been a very gradual (though SLIGHTLY noticeable after the filling) increase in discomfort. At first it was just slight pain to cold > cold/warm > intense pain to cold > constant ache > throbbing. The filling that I believe started all this happened a little under two years ago.

I don't plan to go back to him because I dislike him as a person and especially as a dentist. He injected the numbing substance into a nerve twice. Felt like a jolt of lightning... TWICE

I'm guessing I'll need a root canal. By a stroke of luck my father was able to add me to his dental insurance plan today and plan on making an appointment tomorrow. I hope I don't have to wait long.

Please consult with a dentist with any concerns you may have. SDN is not the place to solicit dental advice.

And to the rest of you. The OP came here with a valid concern and you mock him? Shame on you.

Closing thread.
