Hello fellow foreign trained dentists
I am in dire straits & am not sure what I should be doing. I passed dental school from India 10 years ago & have recently given my part 1 the second time getting only marginal scores (just pass). I am not sure if it requires a certain claivoyant individual to ace this test for I feel that I DID study & am not a below average student. I read in one of the threads that the ADA is going to close the exam retaking process starting next year??!! Is this true? & if is it is WHAT in the world am I supposed to do??? I mean, I am married & relocated to this country & do look forward to working here in the full capacity of my training. At this point I need a little guidance. Can anyone HELP!!!

yes u cannot retake starting jan 2010 but i called ada and i was told that if u apply before dec 31 2009 and gt the eligibility no then u can give the exam in 2010 as the no is valid for 12 months.
hope this helps

In order to practice in US, u either have to go for DDS or MSD (practice limited to tht speciality) both of which need pretty high nbde scores along with other requirements. Else try to look for AEGD program, some states allow practice with them, u can check with ur state board to see what rules they have..

No other option, i knw sounds terrible, but have to improve nbd score.. i also dint get the score i wanted and i am retaking it again..
so good luck friend and get registered soon and pick up the books sooner than later..👍

If I were you I would try and schedule before 2010 since you can take it within 12 months. And try and change your study technique. Take your time, get a different book, ask people how they studied. I took my ndbe this year and did not get a great score. Was pretty average. It felt horrible to have to remember things from 10 years ago... But I think if I retake it I might be able to do better since now I figured out how I should have studied.... I noticed that if I had used more the old exams I would have done a lot better than simply focusing on flashcards and book

And one more thing: This forum is really helpful but at the same time it can be bad for your confidence. You just see a lot of folks showing off their scores and might feel that you are not good enough.
People posting things such as : " oh, I got 94 in my NDBE, 110 in my TOEFL and my GPA is 3.9, do I have a chance???" wtf????
Learn how to filter information here... I believe you have a lot of clinical experience and will take a while to get back in to the study and memorize mode we used to have when we were in school... Just trust yourself and take the time to make your resume rich. Don't worry only about good grades. It is not all that counts. I feel your pain. On the same boat here!
Be strong

well said ilovegoldens..👍

Dear Frustdent,

I really agree with the fact that there may be posts that demoralize you, but there is one good thing here there are a few posts that really boost your morale the thing that u need most. Dont let the rules bother you, just look at the deadline of dec 2009 as a blessing in disgue. we humans tend to stretch ourselfs when the situation demands. view ithe date as now or never and change your strategy. with just a change in strategy i could improve my part 1 score by nearly a 10 marks. it doest not need the intelligence of the whole world to get a high 80 or a 90, it just needs a smart strategy and har work that you already have. the very fact that you had been out in this country in search of green pastures after leading a comfortable life in your country proves that you are a highly motivated and persistant indivudual. use your persistance and motivation to your advantage and let them work work you. u beleive in yourself,u sre here not to be a failure, you are hear to prove to the world what persistance can do. go ahead with the nbde prep for the present.

Thank you so much for all the positivity & hope. I REALLY need that right now. I figured the only option was propofol!! The ADA really wants us to be SUPER DUPER DENTISTS which is in a way cool, but at the moment feels really horrible!
