i got accepted at CSUB it's 4 years university but i am an immigrant, and english isn't my first language so i decided to apply a community college and when i make the assessment test and the result was horrible that my english is my second and i placed in every low classes !! . so to improve it in writing reading and speaking, i need 3 semester okay but until i finish them i can't take any science course so to transfer to a four years university from a community college and take some prerequisite for the dental from community college it will almost cost me 3 years and half to transfer only !! and at the same time i can go to CSUB and start take the dental prerequisite but my english will not be improved so much !! please help to choose which path go to community college and stay four years and then to transfer because of my horrible english or go to CSUB and take all the prerequisite but will not improve so much my english ??
thank you

You would be surprised how dramatically your language skills develop when you are in a country surrounded by people who don't speak your native language. It really is up to you but CSUB may have some ESL classes that you can take to catch you up to speed.

Are you still able to go to CSUB? It's okay if you placed into low classes. You don't have to take really hard stuff from the beginning. I'm sure your language will improve more than you think... Also, though your English isn't perfect, it's entirely understandable and better than others that I have seen. 🙂

I would suggest going the 4-year university route if you can. You can get an English tutor on the side if you need a bit of extra help. There's no shame in that! I only speak English and wish I was bilingual, so I commend you on what you're doing.

If you are immigrant from a country that doesn't speak English, the university will test your English before you start classes. If you are weak, they will place you in ESL courses until you are good enough to start your major courses.

yeah i know but all CSU,UC give you a lower level of English because they doesn't offer ESL classes !!
so even if i take a low class English but i will begin at the same time my classes at science !!

To be honest with you, as long as you can speak/ask questions and people can somewhat understand you, you'll do fine. Science is mostly numbers and latin words. I was an ESL student once, and the only disadvantage I faced was taking little bit more time to study than my native classmates. When I open a book that describe something, I had to translate verbs and adjectives that try describe or explain the material I'm trying to understand, thus taking more time to study. You'll eventually become familiar with those verbs and you'll study as fast as your classmates. For me, it took 4weeks to adapt to those terms because I studied from books directly.

Also, I'd like to point out that ESL programs are mostly BS. Professors and native speakers here make a lot of mistakes and they don't even bother correcting them. ESL teachers make you feel that if you make a grammatical mistake infront of your professor, they'll drag you down to the airport and ask you to leave. Be thankful that you don't have to put up with ESL BS 🙂

did you figure out how you are going to pay for all this

Even if your ECF is 0, just know that most schools dont have the money to give you full financial aid.
