Hello all,

Major: Economics
Minor: Chemistry
Location: NYC
GPA: 3.86 (Science GPA around the same)
DAT: Taking Summer 2015
No Research
Approx 100hrs shadowing OMFS & Dental Department in Large City Hospital
ECs: No Dental/Med related
LORs: None yet
Worked Part time in Investment Bank (high pressure/private equity clients/lots of responsibility) throughout school.

I'm taking Orgoman's review course in July and hopefully taking the DAT late August/early September. Given my stats and the fact that I have not been able to acquire LORs yet, do you guys advise me to put everything together this Spring semester and apply this coming year OR delay my application to next year?

If I apply this year, I will most definitely have my application in very late (late sept/oct). Additionally, I'm not sure If I'll be able to get all my LORs in time. My second option is to wait until 2016 and send in my application as early as possible. This option gives me the ability to get LORs and add some shadowing/ECs and potentially some research to my application.

I'd prefer applying this year, as I started my science coursework late (upper junior year) and a gap year is really unappealing to me. However, I want to be a competitive applicant and I don't want to be overlooked by a top school for applying too late in the cycle.

Does anybody have tips/recommendations for my situation? Thanks in advance for your help, it is much appreciated.

do this once and do it right....take the extra year and kill the DAT
trust me I speak from experience, a late application is only going to give you unneccessary stress, so spare yourself the anxiety and regret and apply strong, early (no later than beginning of august) and prepared cycle of 2017
you're gpa is amazing so no need to take any more classes or do any masters
in the meantime keep shadowing and volunteering...make good connections here so you can get good LOR's and of course you'll need letters from science faculty so keep in touch with them too

good luck 🙂
