Pre-Allopathic moderator EvoDevo has banned me twice from SDN in the last several days. My first alias to fall victim was Greenspan, and the second was Voldemort. If you bother to look up the posts, you will see that while the first MIGHT have deserved this punishment (too harsh in my opinion, as it was my first post ever on SDN and a stern reprimand or possibly a suspension would have sufficed), Voldemort was completely innocent and I think it was obvious that I had gotten my act straight. I did not neglect to confront him on AIM about this, where he told me arbitrarily to wait a month and ask again--can you say power trip? What are we, schoolchildren? I later sent a sincere e-mail pleading for reinstatement into which I put a lot of time, effort, and thought, only to have it completely ignored by the wonderful mod who himself has posted (deceitfully) to "be grownup about it and drop me a PM", as if some action would happen. I should add that EvoDevo never had the courtesy to actually notify me of any infractions via e-mail.
If you glance through other forums on SDN, you will see that none have such overbearing and meddlesome moderators as Pre-Allo with EvoDevo. The 1st amendment has been thrown out the window as far as this forum goes. Do look up the post concerning dioxin and Democrats, in which EvoDevo kindly tells a user to STFU. Great way to encourage expression of thoughts, isn't it? I realize that Pre-Allo is the most active forum on SDN, but are its participants so inept as to be undeserving of the slightest bit of sovereignty? After all, these are supposed to be tomorrow's doctors if I am not mistaken. Let's not forget, any user is perfectly capable of ignoring (or even blocking) posts by another...or must we protect people's feelings awww.
In a sticky note at the top of the forum, EvoDevo addresses an issue known as "trolling", which is coincidentally manyfold more rampant in Pre-Allo than anywhere else on SDN (hardly mentioned elsewhere). Or, could it be that even a hint of discord or controversy started by a poster results in his immediate labeling as a "troll" by every other user, a situation which EvoDevo continually propagates with his repeated scoldings and bannings. Also in the sticky note, EvoDevo has explicitly stated that verbal opposition to his tyranny will not lead to a favorable outcome, and will in fact effect the "Iron Fist of Doom". Am I incorrect or is SDN based in the USA, the land of the free?
If anyone has the courage to speak up about this issue, I think it would really help to do so. Only now do I realize the value of freedom of speech and its importance in this nation--poor Chinese and Iraqis, etc. I expect no less than an instant ban as soon as dictator EvoDevo lays eyes on this thread (which he no doubt will quickly, since his life appears to revolve around this forum), after which it will conveniently disappear. No matter--I will keep returning to get my point across even if my IP address is banned, as there are hundreds of computers around my campus from which to login. Sorry for cluttering the forum, but I think this is for the greater good, and in the end I am just a premed who wants to participate in discussions with like minds freely. Thanks for reading--I appreciate it. Now, what can be done?
