I am a British Citizen with a Primary Medical Qualification from outside the EU. I have completed an acceptable Internship and passed IELTS to the required level.

My research has indicated that my next step would be PLAB but rcently my qualification has been recognised by the ministry of Education in Spain. Is my qualification now considered a spanish qualification because now I hold the same paperwork as a Spanish qualified doctor?

I am not studied a specialisation yet but when using the GMC tool for registration options if I say I have a a specialisation from Spain one of the supporting docum, ents required is the one from the ministry of education which I now hold.

This is a complex area, I have also tried investigating if I have EU rights but have been unable to clarify this and wonder if being recognised in Spain is enough to show EU rights.

I would appreciate any advice

Thank you

EU rights are defined by your nationality. If you're a British citizen you have EU rights meaning your job/training application will be considered alongside other Brits/European citizens.

You do not become a Spanish qualified doctor just because Spain recognizes your PMQ. If you want to train in the UK you will need to take IELTS and then PLAB.

If you get your specialist training in Spain that would be an altogether different story. You can then apply for specialist registration on the grounds of holding a recognizable postgraduate qualification from another country. The GMC site has all the info.

Sorry to burst your bubble. PLAB is not a difficult exam, take it asap and start applying.
