I was just wondering how demanding clinical rotations are in year 4 and the 3 year pod residency. a friend in med school just completed a 90hr a week 6 week OB rotation (except for the hour he got off to see his wife give birth to thier first child)

i've been told that pracitcing pods have little to no on call.

depends on the residency programs. Some programs are very demanding and you will be on call as a DPM PGY-1 especially...programs like Tucker in GA and St. Barnabas in NY.

I think if you refer to the podiatry students forum's 1st "sticky" post titled "what is podiatric medicine", you will get a very accurate idea/picture about the clinical rotations that we must complete and our schedule during the 3 years of residency.

As podman stated it does depend on the residency and it also depends on the rotation you are on for your 4th year as to what hours you will work.

Podiatry is a medical specialty. MEDICAL. That means that you'll have to work hard thru 4 years of school and 2-3 years of residency. all the people that say there is less call and less hours blah blah blah are talking about when you make a choice to go into private practice after 4 years of hard work in school and 2-3 years of hard work in residency.

It may be easier to get into pod school but it is not an easier road once you start your education. Externships and interviews can be brutal.

Make sure you are willing to dedicate your life to podiatry for the next 6-7 years other wise you may become another digruntalled pod.
