The more I read into podiarty the more I'm liking it, but being that I'm an untraditional student (39 years old) could I make podiatry happen. My problem is with the residency, I'm not sure how it works. Do you get paid during your residency? How much. I'm asking because I have a family and I don't know if I could take on 3 more years of loans.

Thanks in advance.

You get paid during residency. Average is around 40k a year, some more some less. People usually dont take out loans during residency unless its for a house. If you are really interested in podiatry, I say go for it. Just remember that you dedicate at least 7 years.

I am 35 years old and am starting at OCPM the 23rd of this month...I'm super excited!!! Remember: you'll have to work in your 40's and beyond (unless you win the lottery), so you may as well do something you'll enjoy and have the opportunity to help people every day!!! "There's no time like the present"...let me know if you have more questions...🙂👍👍👍🙂

I've got a wife and three children so I hear you. I'm in my 1st year of residency and make 43K.
