... not that podiatrists didn't have my respect before, but the truth is that I've never visited a podiatrist or learned about the profession. I shadowed a well known DPM today and his students. I'm impressed by the quality of care that they gave and their knowledge. I truly don't see any difference between MD/DO or DPM other than it being a different specialty.

Good luck to all you guys 👍

We have finally achieved parity and gained the respect of a pre med.

The vision of 2015 has come 2 years early, the prophecy has been fulfilled, hallelujah.

 this almost made me spit out the water I was drinking.

So instead of being glad that people that may one day be a physician taking the time to learn about your profession and seeing all the positive things, you choose to be cynical. Maybe pods will achieve full parity someday, but it certainly won't be thanks to you.

I guess sometimes sarcasm/snark doesn't go over very well when you're online. Relax it's in all in good fun. 🙂 Best of luck in your endeavors.

You're right. I did take myself too seriously there. 🙂

You may one day be physician, you may one day be a garbage man. The future isn't certain

I am so sick of all you pre pods/pre meds bickering about parity/physician status. Most of you guys are ill informed on the subject.

I obviously support any progress made in the field and would expect all of my fellow students to feel the same. I personally do not need acceptance and recognition from pre meds on the internet, nor do I have to prove myself equal to every DO/MD student/physician.

Will every MD/DO see me as their equal? .... Nope
Does every MD see a DO as their equal? .... Nope

These are professions full of egos. All we can do is work hard, know our stuff and be great podiatrists. Regardless if the MD down the hall views you as equal or lesser, if you are good at what you do he will refer patients to you.

I agree with most of your rant except the statement above. If they don't respect you, they will refer to anyone else, more likely a F/A orthopod or even a PT, UNLESS it is in the setting of a multi-specialty group where the podiatrist is THE foot/ankle pain person. That doctor (regardless of their feelings for or against podiatry) will refer within that group as they will benefit financially from it. At the end of the end of the day, the dollar dominates where that patient will go, followed next by personal vendettas.

Hey tri... thanks for taking the time to shadow and check out the profession im glad you liked what you saw it can get very interesting and exciting... I always kept it in the back of my mind that if the medical community were more informed there wouldnt be all these little wars going on along the sidelines... good luck in all you do

So much misplaced anger, and over what? Someone taking the time to learn about your profession.

It was definitely fun and eye opening. Patients seem to be very happy when they go see their podiatrist, which is something the poor dentists will never experience. lol
