Hello everyone. I am an incoming student this fall of the class of 2015. I've been spending some effort learning more about the overall curriculum for podiatry school and I was wondering what the average week is like for a student in rotations both 3rd and 4th year. Is it an average workweek of 40 hours, is it more, or less? Also, are we going to still have some coursework the 3rd and 4th year or is it literally all rotations? And are these rotations graded on a pass/fail basis or do students receive letter grades?

The 3rd year rotations at my school were done mostly in podiatrist offices and hospitals near the school, averaging 40-50 hours per week.

As for the 4th year, part of the 4th year may be spent at or near your school for classes/rotations, but to my knowledge all schools' 4th year students spend at least several months on rotations at your choice of residency programs. At my school we spend 11 of the 12 months of the 4th year at outside rotations at various residency programs. The workload/hours depends on where you choose to go. Most of the programs I've attended are 40-50 hours per week without weekend call, but I've had rotations with a night or two of call per month and I had one rotation with a fair amount of weekend work (ER). However, I have spoken to classmates that rotated at programs with much longer hours. In addition, my school does have online/teleconference evening classes throughout the 4th year. Most of the students from the other schools that I've talked to haven't had this while on outside rotations during the 4th year.

Pod, like most professions, is what you make of it. It's probably more flexible than most med specialties, but it has demanding times. If you think you're gonna work no more than ~50hrs per week, you will flunk outta pod school... or definitely struggle in residency.

Good job finding this forum, and shadowing is another one of the best ways to gain insight (in any field) IMO. 👍

Please dont post identical threads in two different sections.

Why don't you actually read my threads before you make a false comment. Obviously, your the ignorant one here. One thread is about rotations 3rd/4th year and another is about residency. Sorry my titling is off, but please back off because even though I'm new, you are currently the one who looks stupid here.

Thanks everyone for actually responding instead of blindly attacking.
