I am currently a Biology major, and I hate it because I like human interaction. If I were to switch to exercise science or nursing, would I be ok to apply and accepted into a podiatry school?

I did really poorly this past year because of several traumatic experiences and have to retake some courses. With those retakes and switching majors, would that look bad?

If you bring up your grades and can prove that you can handle the curriculum, it doesn't really matter what major you choose. I would suggest choosing whatever major you will enjoy the most. With that said, I think Exercise Science is a good choice and if it is a good program, it will prepare you as well as any major for pod school.

I switched to ESS in undergrad after switching my major twice from Athletic Training to Business to finally ESS. I did really well once I found a major I really liked. I had significant upward trend in my gpa and was able to do some research as well. I will be attending Scholl this coming Fall.

Congrats on Scholl. It's where I'm aiming for eventually. Do DPM schools average a failing grade with the retake score like most MD or DO schools?

Yes they average final grades. If you received a F in biology then retook bio to get an A the final grade will result in a C for application purposes.

major in underwater basketweaving if that is what floats your boat. It really doesnt matter. Just take the necessary premed classes and biochem and A & P.

It doesn't matter what major you choose as long as you complete the requirements for the schools you are applying to. I got my B.S. in Exercise Science and loved it. I had a good foundation of anatomy and physiology which is a good bulk of the 1st year of pod school and a big part of boards part 1.

I couldn't agree more with Paulywog. I am going to graduate Saturday with a degree in Exercise Science. I feel that it has prepared me very well for Podiatry school in the fall because of all the anatomy and physiology involved. Most interviewers will realize that there are some pretty tough classes within the major. I loved the classes and I think that really helps when studying and trying to earn good grades. Good luck!

Thanks for all the info, guys. I'm currently enrolled as a Cell Bio major, but plan to switch it up to physio or ES. After graduation, if I don't get into pod school, an ES degree would probably be more practical anyway.
