Hello. I just recently received information about podiatry school. I am interested to hear from anyone who is pursuing this as well. I am interested in surgery and wanted to know if this was a possibility and what residency would be like (length of time and available matches). Feel free to email direct at [email protected]. Thank you.

After completing four years of podiatric medical school, you can do a two or three year surgical residency. There are just over 500 spots throughout the country. See http://www.casprcrip.org/ for info on residency programs. The majority of people coming out are now doing 3 year surgical residencies.

aw yeah yeah, it's been good so far, but I've just ended my third day as a first year. Guess I'll have to hook you up later about the residency programs, but I got to cut into a body today for the second time, am learning medical based biochemistry, medical research, and it is all good. Look at all the medical options you can and make the best choice for you, there are so many out there. Good luck.

I think its funny when people call podiatry school "medical school". Even the OCPM students I've spoken with argue they're in podiatry school not medical school.

That is nothing more than white coat syndrome.

Ya, it is a formality that only pre-med and beginning med students argue. In the end, we are all doctors that practice medicine and specialize in different things. And we all rely on each other.

It's podiatric medical school.

meritdoc, pods is a branch of meds like any other specialty. If you're good and proud of what you do, the name you're called shouldn't matter.

Don't waste your breath. Whom ever meritdoc is they will learn that podiatrist go to medical school.
