Apparently the families of the victims lowered the amount of money that they would get in the bankruptcy so the Onion could raise their bid.
The 1.5 billion judgment is excessive
Why not shut hit other companies with 2 trillion dollars judgments as well.

If you go back and look into the trial, he and his lawyers made their own bed.
They didn't cooperate with discovery and repeatedly lied and failed to disclose information that was material to the trial.
He had a default judgement ruled against him as a result of this malfeasance.
If he and his lawyers had been competent, he would have paid nowhere close to that amount.
FAFO.

It sounds like you're disagreeing with me, but it also sounds like you don't want to go back and look into the Alex Jones trial.
If you don't comply with procedure in court, you're going to have a bad time. There SHOULD be consequences for failing to comply with discovery. Maybe you think those consequences are too high sometimes?
If Rachel Maddow and her attornies fail to comply with courtroom procedure then they could get similar treatment by a jury.
Did these liars have people call the victims parents and threaten them with death?

And by the way, the Affordable Care Act had multiple legal challenges including one that went to the Supreme Court. The fact that this is brought up in a thread about a conspiracy theorist shows a pretty unmatched level of mental weakness, as far as I’m concerned.

And Roberts got the Supreme Court decision wrong. That’s why he’s completely neutered as chief Justice now with no real power. Everyone who knows laws knows Roberts saved the ACA by using bs reasoning that had nothing to do with protecting the laws of the constitution. That’s why Alito overturned roe because the original Supreme Court justices used bs reasoning 50 years ago that had nothing to do with the constitution.

Before you type anything else, just read something about the Alex Jones trial. Read about his lack of cooperation and how he was found liable due to willful noncompliance.
How do you punish someone who fails to comply with discovery and judicial procedure? In the worst cases, judges rule against them despite the possibility they could raise good defenses. Jones lost the ability to raise good defenses because he refused to cooperate throughout the process.
If NBC fail to adequately defend themselves, they could set themselves up for massive losses as well. This isn't an example of a political decision being made by a liberal judge.

Actually no. The first amendment protections are massive. In order to successfully sue a journalist one has to prove that they knew what they are saying is false. Not just a difference of opinion or honestly mistaken.

Defamation is a very difficult line to reach. For example Trump sues everyone for saying anything bad, and he almost always loses. Plenty of people have sued CNN, and they always lose.
So nothing's changed. If you say lies, when you know they are lies, and it causes damages, then you own it. Pay up

I couldn’t care less about Alex jones , oj Simpson. Juror convicted Simpson of stupid acts but don’t convict the same act by a regular person.
I point out the mis justice the system levies.
The judges ignore caps on damages. The system is broken.
Why don’t judges hit poor people with the same judgments.
That’s why I point out the hypocrisy of the entire system.
I separate my dislike for people from common sense. The original lawsuit wanted 150 million yet the judge raised the damages. What an idiot. Claimed outrageous behavior. So judges don’t follow the laws themselves. How can anyone respect the judge.

Jones has argued that his conspiracy theories amounted to opinion, not statements of fact.
It seems like it's your position it was unfair to Jones to not be able to bring these defenses to trial. I would argue it was unfair of Jones to not comply with his discovery obligations. As much as any crime is the result of deliberate decisions, Jones repeated refusals to comply with discovery falls in that realm and deserves punishment. His punishment took the form of a default verdict against him and the jury just had to decide his punishment.
