I have always wondered what the political leanings of my future classmates and colleagues will be. I am semi-fascinated with politics, so I thought I would post a simple poll to get a feel of the political diversity that awaits us. Feel free to vote yourself and chip in!

Moderate Republican, although I am technically a registered Independent. (Democrats, please take Donald Trump back).

It's going to depend on where you go to school.

There was a thread on Reddit that broke this down by individual specialty. Very interesting.

how much do they make apx? Google says 228k when you type EM salary
According AAMC Careers in Medicine, the average is 320k/year...

FWIW, I have seen job listings from EM groups where I live (great location) that are in 350-400k/year, which seem to be in line with what I have read in the EM forum.

EM docs better enjoy that gravy while it last!😛

There are some EM physicians I'm acquainted with that scoff at the supposedly insane, naive notion of making >250k. You can probably tell right off the bat where they live.

Point is, you already know it's region based, so no point in making assumptions for the sake of an inflated expectation.

ACA seems like it'd be good for ERs -- the "uninsured masses we are forced to serve" are now insured. Course reimbursements could steadily decline despite that -- you have a point there.

Why does diagnostic radiology make so much $$$?

Why does diagnostic radiology make so much $$$?

Physician income, like anyone else's, is determined by how much revenues they can bring. Those guys can knock out hundreds of images a day.

As mentioned above, they can read through many images a day because they don't have to deal with the formalities of speaking with people. Back in the day, around 15 year ago, they were reimbursed much better. If they were going at the pace they are today, their income could have potentially reach $ 1 million per year (depending on the area they are practicing also).

It's only 450k/year. These docs read a lot of images, so they generate a lot of revenue... Right now the job market is not that good according to the diagnostic radiology forum and people have to do 1-2 fellowship in order to get a job, and there is also some outsourcing going on in the field. It's not longer extremely competitive as it used to be due to these factors.
