I don't know where you've gotten your information, but the DAT is given year round. One month to prepare for the test.

Really? Because I was on the Canadian dental association site and they said DAT examinations are only offered twice a year. Maybe its different in the US...?

Yea, the Canadian DAT is only offered in February and November. American is whenever.

Studied PAT for 3 months off and on, then studied hard for about 4 weeks for everything else.

I took the DAT in February, and I studied for 4 weeks over Christmas break.

if youre canadian, try the premed101 dental forum. it will probably be more useful.

4-5 months

It had been 5-8 years since I took most of the pre-req classes. I'm 28.

Casually went through the Kaplan book and PAT material for about 3 months, but really studied hard for ~3 weeks before the test. I would have started studying harder earlier if I had to do it again, although I did fairly well.

Hey,

I wrote the Canadian DAT twice. The first time I took it, I took the Kaplan course in September, which ended just about a week before the DAT. I just found it really hard to keep up, since I was in 4th year, and thought my course material was more important, and so I decided that this would be my "take the DAT for 'fun'."

The second time i took it, I took the Kaplan course in the summer - I found this helpful, because it forced me to review a bit everyday (I'm a big procrastinator) and then just like the others, I did some intense reviewing about 3 weeks prior to the DAT.
Good luck!

First 2 months, I studied hard. Then winter break came around and I chilled, hung out with friends, and traveled for a month. Then I studied some more for 1 more month. So total of 4 month (3 studying + 1 vacation).

Two months solid if you want above 22, but if you recently took your prereqs than it shouldnt take more than one and a half months.

it's really up to you...i got 21AA with less than a week studying...my undergraduate courses covered pretty much everything in the sciences section so it really depends on you.

I started studying in july and took it end of october...but I was only studying 2 hrs average per day which was the BIGGEST mistake I did cause I kept forgetting stuff and going back... It was ugly

I should have dedicatted only 1 month and hit it 6-7 hrs per day

I studied for 3 weeks, but hard for 2 of them. I got into school, but I still know I could have done better (19 AA/ 21 PAT). You'll always wish you did more, so start studying ASAP.

2.5 weeks! Though I should have pushed it back a little longer to bone up on Math.

Got all the study materials ~3 months before my test, but really only studied (4-6 hrs a day) for about 3 weeks. And I will +1 on that recommendation about not neglecting math...though it might be a little easier now with calculators...pshhht

I studied for 3-4 weeks, 6+ hours each day. However, take the DAT when YOU are ready. Many people take a lot longer because their schedule won't allow them to study all day.

Is it official that you can use a calculator for the QR section?
