For information to be provided for the professional experience,
in the previous year it used to say "position title" but in this year's application
it is listed as "supervisor position title" for all shadowing, community service,
research, and work experiences.

I am not sure whether it actually asks for the position title held by the supervisor
or it is an error from indicating "position title".

In the previous year "position title" asked for the position title that the applicant
held during experience, and I confirmed this by the instruction booklet released
by AADSAS in 2014 and the comment provided by AADSAS on its Facebook page.

In this year's application it says "supervisor position title" in the same space.
This did not seem right to me because the admission office would be interested about
the position that the applicant had in work, not the position of the manager and supervisor.

In case of shadowing the supervisor would be dentist. For research, professors most likely.
Volunteer experience may not even have a supervisor.
For working experience, often it would be manager regardless of what work applicant did.

I checked application pdf that gets submitted to admission offices, and it appears as
"position title" unlike the webview of the application on portal.aadsasweb.org,
and it appears to indicate the position of the applicant.

I checked several threads in the forum here, and most people said that it is an error and told to provide
the position held by the applicant.

To confirm whether "supervisor position title" is an error or it actually asks for what it says,
I made a phone call to the customer service.
The person who answered the call said that it does ask for supervisor position title
unlike the last year, and said that she did not get notified this to be an error.

I am very confused now.
It seems inappropriate to put the position of the supervisor and omit the position of myself.

So please tell me your opinion whether it should be position title of the supervisor or of applicant.

Karanja,

I agree that for shadowing experiences it makes the most sense to include the supervisor's position title, however for extracurriculars for example: If put down the name of my fraternity and "President" vs. "member" (which is what I am) under supervisor position title, it seems misleading and incorrect.

I started working on my application the first day it opened, June 2nd. At that time, the web view had "Position Title." A few weeks later after I submission, the web view says "Supervisor Position Title." However, my PDF application states "Position Title." This is so confusing and frustrating! I know it's not going to be a deciding factor whether I am accepted or not, but come on AADSAS! We are paying thousands to apply. I would expect my application to be as crystal clear as possible! :rage:

I guess the correct way is to put the supervisor title..
I believe it was "position title" at the start of application cycle as well.
If AADSAS actually changed it to "supervisor position title" without any announcement or notice,
I must say that is very frustrating.

The date of revision to the instructions indicated June 16, 2015.

This issue seems not yet resolved; the instructions indicate to use supervisor title for dental / shadowing experience, but it says nothing about the other sections (research / volunteering). I suppose since it seems more logical in the work section to put one's own position title that the same should hold true for research / volunteering.

From the AADSAS instructions pdf (same as the page that pops up when you click 'instructions for the section'):

"Professional Experience
This section allows applicants to report their experiences in lieu of a physical resume. Applicants should update their resumes for personal use. Applicants should record only experiences obtained during college.

Applicants should only list each experience in one category. The categories of information applicants can provide are:

  • Academic Enrichment Programs: Programs sponsored by colleges, universities or other not–for–profit organizations (e.g., Summer Medical and Dental Education Program [SMDEP]). More information can be found at ExploreHealthCareers.org.
  • Awards, Honors, Scholarships (Limit of Five): College accomplishments are given priority by many admissions committees.
  • Dentistry Experience (Limit of 10): Applicants need to provide a brief description of the activity, enter the supervisor's title, including start and end dates, and indicate whether the position was paid, volunteer, job shadowing or other.
  • Extracurricular/Volunteer/Community Service (Limit of 10)
  • Research Experience (Limit of Five): Formal research programs, including those sponsored by universities.
  • Work Experience (Including Military Service) (Limit of Five): Current military experiences should include anticipated discharge date and type of discharge.
Tip: Applicants are responsible for selecting up to three professional experiences per category to be displayed on the ADEA AADSAS application coversheet. All experiences will be displayed in the body of the application, regardless of selection."
