    Hi:

Why do some schools give away positions outside the match? Is there a benefit to the school NOT give away spots outside the match i.e. if they have an independent student they're interested in why would the not chose to go outside the match? Thanks

Yes programs do offer pre-match. They sign a contract with you before the match. In case you accept a contract like this you don't have to participate in the match.

    Hi

Thanks for the reply Jeff, but I was more interested in strategies and priorities. Do schools "like" to go outside the match? Is there any reason, if they like an applicant, for them NOT to go through the match? Thanks.

so they fill outside of the match..
or take some people outside of the match...
