i know that you can reapply if you don't get into a school the first time around, but if you are a person like me who will have some debt built up and with a degree in neurobio, is there a job/career that would support those payments and not have to live on the street and eat Ramen for the rest of my life until I reapply?

im thinking about joining the military as an officer, but my advisor sucks at giving career advice just in case i don't get into a school on the first shot.

If you don't get in and you want to use your major then look at pharma companies. Not sure if you live close to a big city or not but there are tons of jobs dealing with neurobiology labs. This is a huge field for big pharma and the pay is O.K. Off hand I know of a few companies in Philly that are hirering in this field. just look around and see what is close to you. good luck!

I know the military pay and signing bonus can sound tempting when you have less than nothing (a.k.a. debt), but, in my strong opinion, it's not worth it unless you have some solid, non-financial reasons for joining. Seriously, the military will own your ass until your time is up (and may even legally keep you in for longer than your contract). Given the state of world affairs, you are likely to be deployed. And even if you are assigned to work within the states, I have heard (so check it out to be sure) that your pay as a DO will be less than what it would be if you work as a free agent. If all that's okay with you (especially the deploying part), then by all means join the military after finding out what may be in store for you. But if it's not, please save yourself and your loved ones a lot of grief and find another way!

Before you even think about military you should spend some time in the military medicine forums. As to your question about employment, pharma is always looking for talent.
