I'm considering taking either orgo or physics this summer. The school I would take it at only offers it as 5 week sessions. I'm not really sure which to choose as far as difficulty. I didn't do too well the first time I took gen chem but managed to retake it and get a B. BUT I've heard orgo is nothing like gen chem in that with organic chemistry it's more theories and concepts, which I'm usually good at. I hear that orgo is extremely hard but being as though I'm not really a math person I'm worried it might backfire on me if I took physics. I do pretty well in memory and concept based classes like bio and micro, so would orgo be the better option for me? I'm also working on trying to improve my gpa (I'm a sophomore) and want to possibly get a job this summer.
Any advice is appreciated! 🙂

Is there a reason you have to take a class over the summer?

I think having to retake general chemistry and getting anything except an "A" means that you probably want to re-evaluate your study strategies. And it doesn't seem like a difficult course (which both of those would be) in a compressed time period is the best way to fix whatever is not working.

My .02.

Well I was hoping to catch up on coursework so that I could take the mcat in summer of 2018. I'd also like to free up time in my schedule to possibly study abroad (although there's a very slim chance). I also feel as if I should be doing SOMETHING this summer. I'm in the process of trying to find some volunteer opportunities but it doesn't feel as if I have enough yet. I want to try and build a really good application. As far as studying I actually have tried to change my study habits and go to office hours more so my grades for this semester are all much better 🙂.

Glad to hear it. I still couldn't recommend taking one of those classes in 5 weeks. As DrMidLife says, "Anything other than an "A" is a step away from medical school..." and it seems like it will be very tough to earn an "A" in five weeks in a tough course, especially if you are planning to do other stuff (i.e. volunteering, etc.).

However, as it seems like you've already made up your mind, and are just soliciting advice as to which course to take, I will step aside and let other posters offer their suggestions.

You have my best wishes for a successful summer.
