So I was really hoping by the time I started the AAMC FLs I would be scoring 517+ so on test day I could at least score 515+ but clearly I haven't.

After reviewing my most recent FL (3). The majority of the mistakes I've made are not from not knowing the content but from just not "reasoning through it enough/correctly" - idk if that makes sense to you guys but looking back those questions are definitely questions I could have got right (like I knew all the info that was relevant) just in the moment I wasn't able to. I was wondering if you guys had any tips regarding how to improve in this case. Or what does this mean for me lol. And also is it realistic for me to score 517+ given my current scores and minimal improvement.

For context: I'm almost down with UW (for everything except CARS), I'm using the JS anki deck. After every FL I thoroughly review all my mistakes (on a spreadsheet) and focus on the topics I did poorly on. Also i test on Aug 24.

Any advice is appreciated 🙂

I was scoring in the 510-514 range on the AAMC FLs and after doing the AAMC question banks and fully reasoning through my incorrect answers using explanations I found on reddit I was able to significantly improve my score to a 519 on the real thing just a few weeks later. Don't gaslight yourself into thinking you know the content or should have been able to answer the question correctly after seeing what the correct answer is (I often found myself doing that too) really focus in on if there are certain topics that you consistently miss in a section and review that content

Got it, thanks so much for the honest advice - i think i really needed to hear that lol.

I was wondering other than doing the AAMC question banks - what else did you do to improve your score? Like did you do anki/watch youtube videos/ do more practice for the topics you needed to improve on? Idk if it's better to spend more time doing anki or doing practice problems.

Prioritize practice problems and then focus on anki as time allows with whatever your schedule is. I also went through the miles down deck like crazy every day for about 2 weeks before the exam. Also reading the full khan academy psych/soc doc the week before the exam made all of that stuff fresh in my mind for that section which allowed me to score a 132 for that section because it drilled all of the terms into my mind and did a great job of explaining subtle differences between similar concepts. Highly recommend that for psych/soc and skipping anki for that section.

Was once MCAT tutor. What was your college GPA? Also - as you say, much of it isn't about pure content or memorization as it is about morale/confidence and reasoning. For example: understanding simple calculus concepts allows you to not have to memorize many physics equations.
