I need a brush up on my math skills (or more so, lack thereof), and am considering taking an introductory Algebra course online (Independent Distance Learning is what its called at the U of MN). I'd prefer taking it traditionally, but I am already taking an Intro Chemistry course on campus and with my fulltime work schedule, I don't have any extra hours to use for another normal on-campus course. Do you think its possible for me to learn easy(ish) Algebra thru correspondence? I have taken Intro to Pharmacy and Medical Terminology online and did well in them, but math is a different kind of learning.

Definitely take it online. I took intermediate algebra as an online class, and got an A in it. Because much of the lessons was animated, I was able to replay confusing sections over and over again until I understood.

I am thinking of taking the Intro Algebra thru correspondence towards the end of the fall semester (since correspondence is offered all year at different intervals). I'm taking an Intro Chemistry course this fall so I hope it doesn't interfere with that...How much math is involved in Intro Chem?

Just be careful with the online courses. I'd suggest doing them only if you think you have some proficiency in the subject. Science and math courses are hard enough, but they're alot more tougher without the benefit of a teacher and in-class time. I took a pre-cal online course this past spring, and withdrew within 3 weeks because of my poor score and misunderstanding. I took the same course (in-class) this summer and received a B+. You algebra class would probably be easier, but I don't know about the chemistry, especially if you've never done it before.

Chemistry only involves basic algebraic math. I found it was more concepts than calculations.

My Chem class is a regular on-campus, in-class course. Just wondered if taking that plus Algebra at the same time might be tough. (since I work full time and taking 2 courses in the first place is hard enough)
