Sorry if this is a repeat but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for anywhere on the application.

I just got off the phone with one of the schools I've had an interview/am on hold with. I want to update my application (I got a 4.0 this quarter that should really help my low-ish science GPA as well as a new research job and tons more volunteering) so I asked what the best way to send transcripts was.

They told me to go on AAMCAS and update my grades that way, and that AAMCAS would notify them of new grades, and then to send the rest of the info in an email to admissions.

So I'm just a little confused about the AAMCAS thing. I was under the impression you couldn't update your GPA once you submitted it. Is this true? If I send a new transcript to AAMCAS will those grades be put on my application and then sent out to all schools? That's what admissions made it seem like but I just thought AAMCAS didn't do that.

Thanks

Don't do any of that through AMCAS. Send an update letters to all your schools (send a letter to each one personally, don't send a mass email) talking about your activities over the past few months. You can talk about all your ecs, your grades etc. Finish it off if you want why you'd like to interview at each school (that can only help!). Some schools may not take updates at all, but the ones that do will certainly take all this new information into account. If you want tips on what to say for an update letter, just search the forum.

Thanks! That's what I figured--but now again I'm on the phone with a second school telling me to update through AAMCAS. I'm on hold though because I told her I didn't think you could do that...so we'll see.

The problem with the transcript route is that doesn't let you say anything about your activities, and I'm not sure if you can add grades to AMCAS after you've already been verified, so it might be a no-go anyway. Update letter is definitely the way to go.
