post-bac programs that have low GPA requirements for pharmacy school?

Not quite sure what that means..

Please explain so we can help.

There are none specific to Pharmacy. The only ones out there are associated with medical schools. I think you would be better off repeating courses for admission to Pharmacy school. Either that, or a combination of a Special Master's Program (SMP), i.e. what you're referring to, and repeating courses.

well, i'm done with my undergrad so i really cant retake it from that university. and most post bacs are geared towards pre-meds. so i really dont know what i can do to enhance my academics. do you guys have any suggestions?

You always have the option of getting a Master's degree -- that's what I decided to do. You can get an MPH, or the program that I did accepted an old MCAT score (they'd probably accept a PCAT too). You have a lot of options. You don't have to be a matriculated student to re-take classes. You can enter as a non-matriculated student and re-take classes you did bad in.

What'd you get your Bachelor's in?

How about a CC?

If you have some extra money, you can always take Open University classes. Most universities offers these programs where you can attend class, and get graded, but not actually receive a degree/credit for any classes taken. It's an option if you need to retake certain classes and want to do it at a university. It can be expensive, though.

LECOM Erie used to have one, I'm not sure if they still do. Check their website. They had a post bac program and if you completed in the top 5 of the postbac class, you get guaranteed a spot in the neww pharmd class.....if i remember correctly...🙂

try calling some pharmacy schools about postbacc programs. for med school at least, some of the best post bac programs are hidden gems which are not publicly broadcasted

yeah, its because i did really bad in my undergrad at UCLA and now i want another chance to just show that i can handle the material and that i have matured from this. i'm just really stressed about looking for another opportunity to strengthen my academics. i'm currently studying for the pharm tech license and hopefully get a job with it while taking CC classes. do you guys think thats enough to get into pharm school?

Is that the crazy UC system which disallows you from repeating a course? Weird. Repeat them at another school. Or enter a Master's program and repeat courses in excess to your graduate courseload. That would really demonstrate your academic competency.

You could take the pre-requisites again at one of our fine CCs here in California and demonstrate a distinct turn-around in your academics. But more than a magic bullet program to get you into pharmacy school, you need to address why your grades were so bad.

Time management? Lack of passion for the material? Life situation problems?

Going into an MPH or other Master's program, or even a CC, with the same problems you had at UCLA will do nothing for you.

I have to agree with this. When I did my PharmCAS and supplementals, I talked about the reasons why I did so poorly the first time around. For me, it was dealing with my sexuality, a lack of interest in school in general and not really knowing what I wanted to do.

You have to show that your previous GPA was the past, and by showing your seriousness by doing a master's or post-bac or even just retaking courses at a CC and scoring a high GPA (my "post-bac" was just going to different CC's around SF and scoring a 3.7); showing experience and leadership by volunteering or working at a health-care related field, etc., is the only way that you're going to get in with that low of a GPA. Bottom line is you have to show your maturity and prove that pharm is what you really want to do. That's how I got into UCSF.

PM me if you want to know more.

UCLA extension- Most of the students are Pre-med. But I've met a decent amount of students trying to get in to pharm school. The professors (I have taken) are great.

Good Luck! 🙂

You can take Phys6A-6C there and its with the same professor. Real nice and devoted in helping students out.

How long ago did you graduate? I was in the same boat as you. I just redid my pre-reqs at a CC. After competing on the curve at UCLA, taking classes at a CC was seriously easy. I walked in my classes knowing not only that I was going to get an A but that I would probably get the highest grade in the class. I got a 4.0 in the new classes, applied to a school with academic forgiveness and it was like the past was wiped clean. But in my case, that only worked because my old grades were old. If your old grades are going to be at least five years old in the year you apply, you could take that option. But if you just graduated, it won't work.
