I am planning on taking a year long post-bac course after graduating and before going to med school. Not one of the programs that lets you take premed courses, but one of the programs that offers a MA or MS in medical sciences or biomedical sciences like they offer at BU, UMDNJ, and Drexel. I was wondering if anyone else has taken this program and if so whether it is standard to start medical school the following fall, or to wait a year so that when applying the med schools would see the grades from the program.
Thanks

Don't rule out the non-degree programs. I did a post bacc at penn, and I was very happy there. There are several other good post bacc programs in philly as well. Those "masters in medical science" degrees are not going to help you get a job if you don't get into med school, if that is what you are worrying about. If you are determined to get a piece of paper, it might be better to look into masters programs in molecular biology, biochem, etc. Thomas Jefferson in philly offers 1 - 1 1/2 year programs for such degrees, and they do help some students gain acceptance to Jeff.

Check out the u of kansas, that's where I am. It is a non-degree granting program. The best thing is that they pay for your tuition and pay you a stipend. Bad thing is that tuition just went up throughout the university system and my budget for next year is $51K (non-res). $33K of that is tuition. You spend the year on the on the undergrad campus in Lawrence. Lawrence is a cool town and they really have a lot of school spirit. You have to take 12 credits 9 of which have to be upper level science courses. You have to maintain a 3.0 and you have a guaranteed spot for the next year, not bad. I think that this program flies under the radar because no wants to come to Kansas. The school is in Kansas City, KS and being from a big city on the east coast I feel at home. Check it out.

Is the program at Kansas a two year program? What are the requirements?

It is a one year program. What happens is you apply to the medical school. They basically select their post-bacs from their interviewees. Do well on the interview anyways but just remember if you are not selected for matriculation the interview serves a dual purpose. They will see your potential. Their requirments are the same as if you would apply to any other med school.

Did you go the the tulane prgram Gobindsing? Also, so you know if it can be done in a year or does it require two years...i couldn't tell from the web site....

I thinkthe anatomy program is one year.

Tulane also has a Masters of Pharmacology program. Its also one year.

peseshet, would you know any additional info. on the Tulane pharmacology program? Does it come with any linkage to their medical school?
