Hey,

I'm currently doing a post-bacc and my end-goal is to get into medical school. My post-bacc is a normal certificate program that models somewhat the first-year medical school classes, like Histology, Anatomy, Physiology, etc. I'm doing really well in it so far, but apparently, there is an option to finish it with a Masters.

The Masters costs an additional $20,000 and I think it's simply way too much money for a degree I don't even plan on using.

But in your all's opinion (and if any of you have done post-baccs before), is the normal certificate post-bacc good enough to get me into medical school, or do you think I should suck it up and finish with a masters?

In undergrad, I finished with a 3.0 science GPA and haven't taken MCATs yet. In my post bacc as of fall semester, I have a 3.9 GPA.

I did a post bacc to cover my med school prereqs, and so far that has been enough to get me two interviews. My GPA isn't the same as yours though, and without taking the MCAT it's difficult to tell. If you fair well on the MCAT, I'd think the post bacc is fine. If you don't score well on the MCAT, the masters will help your application. Ultimately, you know your financial situation, and the choice is yours.

I should point out, the post bacc itself is about $30,000 which I'm already paying.

The Masters will not help your application for MD school. DO does consider the Masters. Without a MCAT, list of ECs and preliminary list of schools it's impossible to say how you'll do in an application cycle.
