Hi guys,

So I am applying for a Post-Bacc degree at Case western hoping to enter this fall of 2013. My credentials stand as followed. I have a cumulative gpa of 2.51 and a sGPA of approx the same. I have worked in a lab for 3 years, shadowed a physician, volunteered hundreds of hours at a hospital, did service volunteer trips, science olympiad coach, served as an e-board member for two student organizations, have a paper published, TA'ed for a class, and have a GRE in the 91st percentile.

On the website it says, "However, successful applicants typically have MCAT scores totaling at least 25, GRE scores on the Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical components of the exam greater than the 40th percentile. An accumulated undergraduate grade point average of greater than 2.9, with a strong foundation in physical/chemical/biological sciences, is expected. "

I have a strong foundation with the basic physical/chemical/biological sciences classes, but my GPA has struggled the past 3 years due to many reasons. I'm not lazy by any means I just had to go through alot in my life, but I can see through the good for all things and I hope to make this the best opportunity I've ever gained and hope to prove that I am just more than just a number.
So, is a chance I might get in?
Thanks so much for your time!🙂

Try to get both undergrad GPAs above the 3.0 threshold. If the post-bacc does this then go for it but if it doesn't you are wasting your time. SMPs that have medical school level courses do not changes the undergrad GPA thus should only be taken as a last resort. However, one should have at least a 3.0 before getting into a SMP. Otherwise, you will be auto-screened by some med schools before they even look at your app (even with a 4.0 SMP GPA).

^^^^^ gotta get that undergrad gpa to a 3.0 first.

Then apply to specialized master's programs and then I think you will be fine.

Your undergrad GPA is a little low right now considering they would like a 2.9 or higher, but there is no shame in trying and I would encourage you to apply to several post bacc programs

Thanks everyone for the responses,
I calculated out that I would have to take at least 44 more credits to get aleast a 3.0 ( and assuming I 4.0 all those classes). I don't think I could honestly afford that in terms of money. I already have 135 credits done and I am done with both my degrees too. What else could I do? I mean my GPA feels like it can't go anywhere, if I had less credits done, I would gladly do more coursework. How exactly could I make my case appeal to the admissions board?
I really need a second chance and I know there are other Post-Bacc programs out there but to your knowledge is there any good ones out there with the reputation of Case western?
Will I be looked upon slightly favorably with my high GRE score?
Thanks!

Apply to several post bac programs. Having the high GRE will help but there is no telling if it will help enough to be admitted to Case. In fact, these questions you are asking should be directed to their program director. In the meantime, investigate other post bacs (Touro-Nevada and Touro-California may be options. I had stats similar to yours and was just admitted to Touro-Nevada's MSMHS. They have a guaranteed linkage to the medical school as well...)
