Hey everyone
Right now I am entering my seinor year with a GPA that needs a bit of work (a 3.0 overall, about 2.7 science GPA). I was wondering if there are any Post-Bacc programs for pre-optometry students. I have tried to search for them but most if not all seem catered towards those wanting to go to Med school so an MCAT score is required.

If there are no Post-Bacc programs what can I do to increase my GPA after I graduate?

Yea sure, do you by any chance know of any that would help for Optometry school?

A lot of students just re-take the lowest grade class in community college. You don't necessarily need a tailored program. Assuming you have a strong OAT score, you shouldn't worry too much about the whole "community college vs university" thing, which is a whole other thread

This is on the right track basically. While you can do a "post-bac," keep in mind that it is mostly for students who do not have sufficient science back grounds. While you can do one of those SMP's that prospective med students do, it is probably not necessary.

From what people say on here, it seems like optometry school admissions counselors or administrators are happy to advise you on your situation, in terms of if you should retake and get your grades up. Most likely, its better to just retake since you're grade either gets averaged or even better, replaced (not sure which, you can check the official website to see).

Clever name EyEnStein! 🙂

Each school looks at grades differently. Western will REPLACE and take your highest grade in the class. However, they are very open about saying they are not fond of community college classes and that given an equally strong applicant, they absolutely will go with the university applicant (all the more reason to be strong across the board).

SCCO is quite the opposite. They are very supportive of community college courses saying that CC offers you smaller class sizes and is smarter economically. They treat all classes the same. However, they will AVERAGE all the times you re-took the class.

Hope that helps!
