I'm hoping some of the excellent advice I've read on these boards will flow my way...

I'm trying to decide between two options. Option #1: Apply for and attend a post-bacc premedical program. Option #2: Reapply to a University I deserted 10 years ago and finish that degree (it will satisfy premed requirements).

Here's the real clincher though...I earned a ghastly GPA during 3 quarters at Deserted University (I'll just nickname it). Sure, of course, major extenuating circumstances played a role the details of which I'll spare you (no, it didn't involve drugs or legal problems). Let's just say, a 1.5 was all I had to show for my pathetic effort. Truly, an anomalous disaster.

Prior to attending Deserted U, I earned a 3.6 (included lower division physics, chemistry). After leaving Deserted U, I got a BS in business (3.6 GPA) and a then an MBA (GPA 3.5) - both at respected schools.

So, my question is, is there any merit in going back to Deserted U, tail between my legs and applying for readmission? Or would my time be better spent doing well at a solid pre-bacc program?

PS: Please don't shoot ~ I feel the same way about most MBA's as you do 🙂

If you decided not to go back to Deserted U, were you planning to include it on your AMCAS? You're required to and all classes from all your schools get calculated together. That 1.5 will weigh down your 3.6. On the positive side, adcoms like to see an upward trend and your pitiful first attempt may be forgiven. However, beware of the program screeners that will reject you automatically if your gpa is too low still.

Yes, absolutely, I plan to include it on the AMCAS. Full disclosure is required and so I have no intention of "hiding it" regardless of my decision on this issue.

I see one possible out here if I do go back to Deserted U ~ by retaking those courses, I could petition for their removal and have them replaced by the newer grade. This could remove the obstacle of 1.5, no?

On the other hand, I could enter a post bacc, leave the past in the past, address the issue in my essays and hope for the best.

Based on everyone's collective experience with the notorious adcoms, which option is better in their eyes?
