Hey guys!

Its a sad story how I have only about 5 schools left that didnt reject me yet, but I recently read about the post-bacc program at Temple and started searching sdn for some additional info. Not much luck.

Any of you guys have any info/experiences/thoughts about this program? I know that 3.5gpa in the program + screening will get me a seat for next year's cycle, but I need more information- their main site has limited info.

Is a post bacc option a good/viable one in order to be a dentist? Temple is relatively cheaper than other dental schools, and the guarantee is definitely a bonus, so I am getting very interested in this program.

Any help is appreciated!

This is their first year doing this program, I spoke to the lady running it and she said it is not a guaranteed seat in the DMD program but if you meet the requirements, you apply and the chances of you having a seat in the DMD are higher, not sure based on what criteria they are higher but thats what she said. I too am interested by can't seem to understand the pre-admit clause even after she explained.

Oh what I thought it was a guaranteed seat if you get over 3.5 gpa and get screened by the committee... But I didnt know this is the first year they're doing this. Thanks for the info. I should probably email them for additional clarification about the "pre-admit" part...

I emailed her and she told me to call instead, so I ended up calling her. Tbh, she didnt give me that 100% assurance about the pre admit part. All she mentioned was that the 3.5+ gpa and screening done by the committee WILL give you a spot for next cycle. But based on the research of other post bacc programs in other schools, I believe Temple will do the same in selecting only a few students to a seat for DDS/DMD.

Now the unfortunate part for me is that I am applying from Canada and if this program starts in June, with the application deadline only a month before (May 1st), then its gunna be a hectic process for me to get a study visa by June 1st. Im not sure if this is even possible 🙁

Anyone happen to know how long it takes to get a study visa?

There's also a similar program offered by Ohio State called DENTPATH. I knew several people who got into OSU from the program.

@zhou381OSU Hey, thanks for the info, I was actually in the middle of looking into it. Do you have any goods/bads/or any useful info that your friends might wanna share?

I wasn't in the program personally... but my friend told me that they were placed in the same classes as the dental students and are paired up with a dental professor. I think that if they maintained a good GPA and passed the interview, they'll have very good chance of getting into OSU CoD. (Someone currect me if I'm wrong).

I talk to the people at temple two days ago and they said that they aren't going to review any applications until after the deadline of May 1st and will hopefully contact everyone within a week. I was also told that if you obtain the 3.5 GPA, 20 AA on the DAT, as well as other professional requirements as chosen by a committee, then you will be awarded a seat. The other thing I don't like is the "other professional requirements". This makes it hard to work for something when you don't entirely know what it is. So you may obtain the 3.5 GPA and 20 AA on the DAT, and still not receive a seat because of not meeting the professional requirements.

You don't get awarded a seat. You still get evaluated by the admissions committee just like any other applicant is
