So I have been reading a little bit about the post-graduate training years: internship, residency, fellowship. How do these years compare with the quintessential "crazy" residency years (previously the 100+ hours a week) we hear about all the time. If you are doing say a 3 year IM residency and 3 year cards fellowship, from what I have seen, the first year is a more general internship where you do a wide variety of things. But will you be pulling long hours for all 6 years including the fellowship. Also, how does this compare with other residency programs such as rads where you start right in a rad residency after your first internship year? Does anyone have any good sources to read about what it is like to go through these different residencies and the various routes involved?
