Post-interview rejections

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got one. It was a SUNY and I am out of state. It's fairly common I'd say.

It was brought up on interview day at a few of the places i visited and i think that it really has to do with how each school handles admissions. Some schools either waitlist or accept everyone post interview, unless the interview went really badly. Other schools hand out post interview rejections much more commonly, which seems like a less efficient system.

Oh so GW does this? I have an interview there in a few weeks and I was just curious.

I got straight out rejected fro Tufts post-interview. I'm not entirely sure why, because one interview didn't go that well, but the other rocked and I received great feedback on my application from the interviewers. I'm not too bent out of shape though. I have some desirable schools which I've already gotten acceptances in (tufts was pretty much on the bottom rung of my rankings)

Happened to me. I didn't think the interview went that badly either, but it looks like the average numbers are up this year. I was borderline looking at the stats from last year, but apparently this year I was bottom of the pile. I don't think there was really much I could do at the interview to change that, but it is what it is.

Happened to me at Temple. I thought I had a really good interview too. Not too broken up about it although I'd prefer not to have it happen again.

As far as Florida schools are concerned and what I've heard, the trend seems to be post-interview:

UF-majority waitlisted, significant amount eventually accepted
USF-really interview dependent-could go either way (a "fit" type of school)
UM-significant majority accepted
FSU-good amount accepted

:luck:

Anyone get a straight rejection post-interview? If so, at what school? How common is this?

I suspect that usually happens when

1. an interviewee does or say something incredibly inappropriate
2. a school gets the impression that they are your back-up school and have no interest at all in going there.

The latter I think happens with schools that are considered by some "back-up", e.g. GW, BU etc.

How many people do you think do something really inappropriate? I'd venture to say that very few do.

I got one within 2 weeks of my interview at UW. I was OOS, so that might have been part of it, but I've heard they tend to get them out pretty quick in general.

got one from Pitt. Thought I did well, guess they didn't think so.

I'm guessing this is the case with me when I got a reject from UNECom a couple of weeks after the interview. (I know, this is the allopathic board but it sort of fits.) I did talk to admissions after the fact to find out why supposedly they rejected me though. (I hate to say it was clearly nonsense but it was clearly nonsense.)

Oh well, still trying as I've said I'm a glutton for punishment.

got one at NYMC

thought i did well

whatever

From what I've heard, schools will interview and accept candidates that are best fits to their program. The interview is the time to show them that you're a good fit. I have a friend who got accepted to many top-tier schools (he has insane GPA and MCAT, though) and got ignored and/or waitlisted at mid/low-tier schools.

If they think you're not likely to attend their school after the interview, then I wouldn't be surprised if you got a rejection soon afterward.

How significant are reapplications in the decision process? I'm curious, because one school I reapplied to decided to interview me, but later ended up sending a rejection. I'm not sure why the school even bothered interviewing me in the first place. I feel like my previous cycle played somewhat of a role in my downfall since I was hounded with attack-dog style questions on several accounts throughout the interview (i.e. - are you ready for this transition knowing what you've been through? why this school again?). I felt like I carried myself very well (I've been accepted this cycle using a similar interviewing style), but how should I respond when someone clearly has a motive in interviewing me? Isn't that discriminating to a degree by judging someone so fervently based on their previous attempt? I know I didn't present myself the way I should've the first time, but that's why there's a second chance - a tabula rasa , a learning curve, per se! This whole process is so frustrating, because there is zero transparency and I've attempted several times to contact the Admissions Department, with no response at all. I'd like to know what happened so I can learn for future reference what NOT to do! Any ideas on what I can do or should I just give up trying to find any information?

Got one from SUNY Stony brook OOS, interviewer gave me an unqualified 'congratulations' at the end of the interview too. It took em 5 months to decide to do it though.
