Is there usually a wave of interviews as people receive acceptances and begin withdrawing from other schools? Just wondering if this has been the case in the past, especially since the deadline for submitting AMCAS falls at the same time and schools will know how many total applicants they are dealing with. Any thoughts would be great.

This is just speculation of course, but what you say does make some sense. More than likely, schools are a little hesistant to offer interviews without knowing how many applicants are applying to their school (and perhaps some basic statistics like average gpa, mcat, etc.). So more than likely, they only offer interviews to the most qualified applicants before their application deadline. Once the deadline has passed, and they have a better sense of their applicant pool, they probably relax their criteria and interview a lot more people. Of course, I'm just pulling this stuff out of thin air so it may not be like this at all =)
