I'm a she. 😀 And no worries - I'm from southern California. Besides, at second-look for Davis, the students did tell us that you could sometimes smell the cows in the morning.

I do love both schools equally though, so I wish I had the financial aid info for them. That might've made the deciding a lot easier.



Yeah, and if the Kings end up winning the championship this year, it'd be especially painful going to Davis. 😉

Hey Eraser, do you think that after you sent your withdraw letter to UCI, they took twizzler off the list to fill your spot. So now, if you withdraw from UCSD, you can't go to UCI because they think you left already and you have no spot now. 😱

OMG, what if you wait until next Wednesday to make the decision and UCSD sees you are still holding two spots and they drop you becuase of the AAMC guidelines. I would call UCSD just in case.

Also, try mentioning the UCI package and see what they do for you... 😉

Was there a status page change?

Yes, but in a rather odd way. The date next to the alternate column changed from February to today's date. The person who called though (chair of the admissions committee) said that the acceptance package wasn't mailed out yet, and I wouldn't get in until next Monday. So maybe the status page will show a date next to 'Final Decision Letter' once it's actually mailed.

Also... your post to me about USC - did you mean to post that as a response to someone else? 🙂 Cause I didn't mention anything about USC - I'm just trying to decide between UCI and UCD (and UCLA if I can get off their waiting list.)

Thanks 🙂 I think there should be an AAMC guideline that requires students to know fin aid packages by May 15th. It's just not fair to turn down a great package for a big fat question mark, only to find out you are going to be shelling out the whole thing in loans!

as an FYI, 42 SDNers have admitted to interviewing at UCI.
Of those 42, 20 have confirmed (via posting) acceptances.

Likewise for Davis, 42 SDNers have admitted to interviewing there.
Of those, 22 have confirmed (via posting) acceptances.

The difference I have seen between these two schools, is that thus far, a higher percentage of Davis acceptees have expressed the intent to matriculate there than those accepted to UCI.

I got a phone call tonight telling me that I had been accepted to UCI. It came during the middle of dinner, and I was so happy! 🙂 But I think this means I only have the next few days to decide between UCI and UC Davis, and as of yet, I have no clue which one I'll pick.

Ahhh...time to start checking my cell phone to make sure I have service every 10 minutes! Good thing I just finished my last day of class today so I can spend all day worrying...

Congrats twizzlers, it must be awesome to be able to pick between two schools you loved. I don't think you can go wrong either way. But don't worry about the Kings winning the championship, that's never gonna happen.

Ahhh...time to start checking my cell phone to make sure I have service every 10 minutes! Good thing I just finished my last day of class today so I can spend all day worrying...

In case you're worried about missing UCI's call and them moving on to another name on their list, I don't think that's a concern. 🙂 I don't have a cell phone, and I had been away at LAX for four hours yesterday afternoon, and after returning, I was immediately on the internet for another half hour (I connect with a modem, so no calls while online), and literally 2 minutes after I signed off the internet around 7:30 pm, the phone rang. So I think it's very likely that they had called earlier, couldn't get through, so they just tried again. 🙂

But don't worry about the Kings winning the championship, that's never gonna happen.

I wrote one last and final letter and dropped it off at the office today. Now, all I really can do is sit and wait. They have all of my info there. If it's not enough, oh well.

I personally would want people who love the school attend it, not people who have no other choice - but that's just me.

Called Gayle today for an update and she said alternate list files are currently under review. PRIME-LC is full 🙁 I'm bummed but I had expected as much. But she told me I should just see how it plays out. I guess someone could still withdraw at this point. We are still welcome to send more letters if there is additional stuff we want reviewed by the committee. And she said "protect any acceptances you do have." Not much new there but it does sound like movement will continue happening since they are reviewing.

1) It's still too early to get any hopes up too much. It's not even May 15th.
2) Remember that there are currently (at least) 2 active SDN posters who interviewed at UCI in the past and were never accepted. I hate to say it but please don't get your hopes up to high.

UCI financial aid packages should be in the mail this week or next...you can always call the financial aid office and they can check on it for you. the amount you recieve in grants is based on your parent's income tax returns (expected family contribution i think) and the rest is university and dept. of education loans. hope that helps!

I really, really struggled with this and pretty much concluded that I would SOOO much rather be an hour or so drive from SF than from LA. I know almost nobody in SoCal and thought it would be a hard transition to make. Plus, the UCI financial aid office essentially told me I would get a lot less than UCD offered. So, it was really the most logical decision. I'm bummed we won't get to explore the OC together though 🙁

Yeah, Davis as a town is definitely more liberal than Irvine I believe. It's pretty solidly Democrat and Green party dominant. They even had a Green party mayor at one point I think. And it seems like a good place to be a student. I think I'll survive, though I do not like Sacramento very much, and it will be much harder to constantly drive home to the city on weekends once school starts. Yes, let's see Dogville next week after the long weekend 🙂

Me, I still can't decide between Davis and Irvine. I think Davis is the stronger school clinically, but my parents and friends are all in Orange County and I love southern California... I swear I'll make a decision one of these days though. 🙂

So I finally made a decision today, and chose UCI. I had gone out-of-state for undergrad, and I realized I liked Southern California way too much to give it up for another 4 years. 🙂 Good luck to anyone still waiting to hear from UCI.

They gave me a 6,000 dollar grant (which I think is the max?), and the rest were loans.

On my UCI status page, I see that the date next to "alternate" changed from 4/xx to 6/1. For UCLA, it seems that any sign of change date at this point on the status page means good news, but I don't think that's the case for UCI since it appears that ppl who get off the waitlist get phone calls....
