Hello All,

Good evening!!!

I am a non traditional student that graduated college with a BS Microbiology in 1997 and worked in research for 3 years out of college before my becoming a technical sales professional. Because it has been over five years since I took my prereqs I have been told by several dental schools to retake them. I am okay with that however should i retake them at a local community college or enroll in a postbac program at a major local university here in NC. I have been advised to only retake Bio, Chem I&II and O chem I & II since I took some of those courses over 15 years ago. Please help as I am needed to enroll here in the next 2 weeks or so for a post bac if that is the best route. Also I am asking as I would like to know if a postbac GPA ways heavier in my gpa calculation than retaking the classes and getting a high gpa as well!!

Thanks lots and keep smilin'!!

The reason that the dental schools are suggesting retaking those particular classes is that is pretty much the DAT.

I have been told from an admissions committee member that a post-bac GPA will actually benefit you on the application. It was explained that having a post-bac GPA shows that you are committed and determined to enter dental school.

As for CC or University. I think that completely depends on the individual school. Some do not care about CC hours and some do. But like most non-traditional students trying to get into dental school you have a mortgage, family (maybe), bills and the like. So working part-time and going to school full-time may not work out so well and that is where the CC come into play.

The CC alot of the time will have a more flexible class schedule and offer more evening classes than at a University.

Contact the school/schools that you are thinking of applying to, use predents.com and the choice is ultimatley yours but choose wisely my friend.
