Morning all,

First off I would like to express my extreme frustration with the department of education because I have just found out that I cannot get independent status on the fafsa because I am not 24 even though I have a degree. Anyway my old junior college is just down the road and I was considering doing all of my pre reqs there. It's cheap, only about 200 a class. I really can't afford to go back to Tech with dependent status for stafford loans. I have considered private student loans, but I will not do it if they require a cosigner, I told my folks that I would do it on my own this time. Would CC classes doom my applications with my already low gpa (2.8)? I am only considering DO and Caribbean schools. Thanks. Oh and does anyone know of any post bac programs that take people with low gpas without recommendation letters. I used up all of my good references with I was prelaw back in the day.

Is this a troll???

" I am only considering DO and Caribbean schools" you say DO as if you've lumped them in with Carib schools. Hate to break it to you, but a 2.8 isn't going to get you into a DO school. CC credits for your prereqs will likely not cut it at most schools, even DO schools. Maybe in the Carib, and maybe SOME DO schools, but likely not most or all of them. You need to call your schools of interest. For the record, DO isn't some place for people all washed up, it is still highly competitive, and if you applied with that attitude, it would kill your chances.

Additionally, you want a very competitive group of programs to accept you with NO letter of recommendation? WTH? You have NO college professor willing to write you a letter, and have a 2.8 GPA??? Not to sound entirely harsh, but WTF did you do in college? I didn't have the best GPA, but 12 years after I graduated I still had more than enough professors willing to write me letters. You're going to have to take classes at the CC just to get your GPA up to the mostly standard minimum for PB programs which is 3.0 and get SOMEONE to write you a letter. If not, you really will be limiting yourself greatly.

No I assure you that I am not trolling. Secondly I did not mean to intentionally devalue DO schools by lumping them in with Caribbean schools, however I have been told repeatedly that I will never have a chance at an MD school, so DO and the Caribbean are my only remaining options. As for the letters or recommendations, I had already received recommendations from professors for law school, I did well in those classes. I did not think it would be wise to seek lors from professors that I did not know well, or made less than an A in. My goal was to take CC classes for purely financial reasons.

Just because you asked a prof for a letter for law school doesn't mean they won't write you one for a grad program. Either way, you need to get your GPA up, most of the actual graduate or UG PBPM programs require a 3.0 and are highly competitive. I understand the financial reasoning, but it can cause a problem. As far as carib/DO, I have been told that as well, and in reality, I will do everything in my power to get into a DO school, but if I can't I will do Carib as a dead-last resort. Go through the underdog thread and look through there... What's your science GPA? You said your cGPA is ~2.8 how many credits will it take at 4.0 to get you to 3.0-3.3?

in your case, i would strongly recommend against it. i would assume your degree is in a "pre-law" style with little or no sciences. You have a 2.8 GPA. DO schools are generally less competitive than MD schools but that is like saying running 24 miles is easier than running 26 miles. Both are incredibly competitive and a 2.8 won't cut it.

I went back and looked at your previous posts after I wrote the first paragraph, and I am leaving it for others that may run across it. If you have a <3.0 in science like your post in 2008 indicates, it would be detrimental to your application to redo your sciences at a CC. you are showing you obviously can't handle the rigor of a university and are taking the easy way out.

I guess in short, we need to know where you currently stand. what is your degree? what is your science GPA? how many credits do you have? were you BSing about your 30 MCAT? any truthful information you can give would help change minds, because right now you don't have a chance.

Ok, wait, in these other posts you said you have cell/mol bio degree??? is that correct?? it also says you took several prereqs at that time?? and that you made improvement over your previous coursework correct? At that time you posted your sGPA as 3.05, but that your current work was 3.92? Here's my thing, call your med schools of choice and talk to them, we can't give you all the answers. Give them ALL the details, the whole story, and see what they say. That is how I am on my path, called the school said "this is my story, what are my options, what is your suggestion" they gave it to me, and 5 months ago when I met the dean of admissions he said if I do well on the MCAT I have a good chance. Reason being, I've been out of school many years and showed a dramatic improvement over my old grades...

I read your post from year 2008 in which you say that Medicine is your passion. One thing I don't get...if Medicine is your passion then why you wanted to go to Law school? Or perhaps u became passionate about it overnight.

You also had a good 30 MCAT. Too bad you may have to retake it because I think schools don't accept MCATs taken >3 years. Your sGPA was 3.9 and the cGPA 3.7 and both of them are competitive for DO schools. Now, how can you have a low gpa of 2.8 if you already had the high ones you mentioned in your 2008 post?????
