Has anyone done any postbacs? Any recommendations on good programs? Thanks for the help. I have no idea where to begin.

I was at UMASS Boston. Good program--faculty, facility and overall education wise, however, the whole premed advising part needs some major help.

I have a few friends who are doing postbaccs and applied to postbaccs. I think Georgetown has a great 1 year postbacc if you already have all the required courses, but just want to have a great GPA and a firm knowledge base.

Drexel is also a well-known program for postbacc education.

I did post bacc at LECOM-Erie. IT's mini medical school so it really prepares you since its the same profs teaching the same subjects. Good program. It's in the evening 6-9pm Mon-Thurs.

Check out the postbacc programs linked to medical programs. Its basically like a backdoor into medschool provided you fullfill the GPA or whatever. TCOM is "supposed" to be guaranteed.

TCOM is not guaranteed.
With TCOM, you take classes to prepare you for medical school. Anyone can apply to this program.

OSU-COM is. With OSU-COM, you do the MS-I curriculum over 2 years. You must be "disadvantaged"* to apply to this program.

I would recommend both.

*Disadvantaged = Low income and/or underserved minority (even though we would like to think that someone who wasn't accepted to medical school because of a low GPA or MCAT would also be disadvantaged, this is not the case). It's more low income than the underserved minority, based on the population of the students.

I did my post-bac program at Scripps College (part of the Claremont colleges in Pomona, CA). It's a very solid, very difficult program with linkages to med schools like Drexel, George W., Tulane, Western, and Temple. . Overall it's a good program but there are some drawbacks. I'd recommend it if you want to do a postbac program on the west coast. Feel free to pm me if anyone has any questions.

I did LECOM also. I think out our class of 35 only two people didn't get in somewhere. Of those two one went to podiatry school and the other one changed professions.

I did Post-Bac at OU-COM...but in order to do it you one have to be disadvantaged and two have to have gone through the summer scholars program (6 weeks). But it was great and really prepared me for medical school. If you have a final GPA of 3.0 you automatically get into medical school. It's a year long program. You take undergrad and graduate classes on Ohio Univerisity's campus. You might want to call them, Center of Excellence, and see if you qualify. Everyone that did the program with me got into medical school except one person that decided to do Dentistry...I'm at VCOM...and another one of my friends went to the American Caribean Med school...the rest of the peps are at OU. They only take about 11-15 people a year.

Can you describe the typical schedule of classes in each semester? How often do they test in the program? What is the format of test? Did you know how many people had to retake the MCAT?
