Stole the idea from another poster and thought I would ask. I copy and pasted my post from his thread.

I've just been accepted to a pharmacology lab at a local medical school and been going for the past 2 weeks (2-3 days a week, 5-6 hours a day). The only people in the lab are the PI, a research specialist, and myself. Basically I'm learning how to do all the experiments right now (survival surgeries, micro-infusions (ICB), IP injections) and will be conducting an experiment (PI designed it) in the upcoming weeks. I have not talked to the PI about an independent research project but I am required to complete a thesis for my major in which I will have to conduct independent research. What do you guys think about the potential of this lab?

Sounds fine to me. Don't be one of "those guys" expecting his own project after a week but you have a perfect way to bring it up once you get your feet wet.

Yeah I don't plan on asking really, hopefully he'll offer and if not I'll bring up my thesis requirements in a year or so. Just like you said I'm just getting my feet wet at the moment.

And ppifz maybe you could send a link to the device you speak of?

It's not impolite to ask the PI how he envisions your trajectory in the lab. You'll probably get a vague answer, but it will let him know that you're serious about moving beyond the basics.

Well bud you're having better luck at finding these exclusive items than me, so I'll let you continue to use them.

I'm gonna wait until I run a few experiments to see how he feels about my work then I'll ask him how he views my future in his lab :)
