Hey guys,

I'll be entering my junior year this fall and I haven't taken general chemistry yet. This means that I'll be dedicating junior year to gen chem and senior year to o chem. Now, I don't know much about the DAT or the application process to d-school so correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that I should be taking my DAT sometime next summer, right before my senior year so that I can apply in time. What potential problems do you see me running into? Not having enough time to study for the DAT right after my junior year? Not having any knowledge of o chem? Let me know what's up!

Thanks! 🙂

I think the big problem would be that you haven't taken Ochem yet. Ochem will be particularly hard if you haven't taken the class because there are so many little rules that you need a strong foundation for and such. I'm not saying it's impossible, and if you spend all summer studying Ochem you'll do awesome when you take it next year, but it will be very difficult.

One thing to remember is that many people take a year off between dental school. The average starting age is 24.
