Hi guys,

So we have to report and send only the transcripts where we received class units right?
After getting accepted last winter, I enrolled in a personal enrichment class at a local CC (art class). After finding out the class sucks, I dropped in time to not receive a W. This is my only interaction with this community college. So basically I have no course history there or anything. I don't have to report this to my schools right?
Thanks

No you don't. I am pretty positive you don't if you dropped before the withdrawal date. A drop shouldn't even be on a transcript so there really would be nothing to report anyway.

Actually, AMCAS instructions say you need to submit a transcript if a class was attempted, regardless of whether credit was earned. See page 22: https://www.aamc.org/students/download/125246/data/new_document.pdf

In his case I don't think it would count as attempted. For example, when I am making my school schedule I sometimes enroll in a class and find I have accidentally created a conflicting schedule. So I go in and drop the course, this can be done before the withdrawal date and no record of them actually exists in my official transcript so there isn't even possibility of it being included as there is zero documentation for you or schools to rely on.

edit: rhino1 already said it.

I think this rule applies to receiving a "W," b/c no credit is earned. If the OP really did drop without a "W," then no transcript even exists for that school. Therefore, it would be impossible to send.

if you actually follow Catalystik's link, i think you'll find that the instructions are very clear.

Paranoid: "I would like to request my transcript be sent to AMCAS"

CC office: "Uh, you do not have a transcript for our school, b/c there is no record you ever took a class here."

Paranoid: "Ok, but gravitywave said I need one, so can you make one up for me?"

CC office: "😕"

Seriously, if he withdrew before the deadline, then he was probably refunded his money, and therefore never attended the school. Chillax, the instructions say nothing that makes it clear he send a transcript... mostly b/c it doesn't exist.

Yeah gravitywave, duh. shuld kno dis by noww

Thanks for the responses so far everyone.

Clarifications:

This has nothing to do with AMCAS because it all took place after I got accepted, so I guess it's a matter of shoul I send it to the school I'm attending.

I did get a refund and everything. I checked and it was two weeks before the drop with W deadline.

I guess even if I don't send it, I wouldn't get in trouble even if someone found out somewhere down the line? That's what I'm hoping for. I also don't want to look like an idiot by sending the school a blank transcript..

 OK, you guys win. It seemed pretty clear to me, especially when the instructions then say "If the institution only provides a certificate of completion, or no official transcript is available, the registrar of the institution must send AMCAS an official letter verifying that no official transcript is available."

i agree it doesn't mean much, and that you'd feel silly doing it, but when that's what the instructions say..... ??? besides, you don't know for sure that OP's CC wouldn't issue a transcript. just sayin

edit: OP said all this happened post-AMCAS, so this is moot. Just call your medical school already and ask them what to do.

There won't be anything to send. If you wanted peace of mind you can attempt to send something though. I know from my experience that what you are explaining wouldn't be on a transcript for me at all. So if I am understanding you correctly then you should be good.

I believe that quote applies to institutions that offer courses, but do not grade them or do not offer an official transcript.

If the OP was refunded his money, then was he ever a student there? I would bet the school would say no.

+1

gravitywave, what is this nonsense about conceding defeat and continuing the war? You make me so mad! 😡

I agree, considering the additional info provided. Your original post wasn't clear that it was med school you'd been accepted to, as opposed to a college.

Just call your medical school already and ask them what to do.
I agree with this, too.
