I've gotten a bajillion PMs asking me what I did in my interview so I guess I'll post it here.
#1. Look like a million bucks. I went out and bought a $400 suit and had it tailored. Some nice heels, not hooker shoes, but nice. That morning I went and had my hair done (I am a total gimp with a curling iron) and a manicure - for the week prior I moisturized the hell out of my face and put super heavy lotion on my hands at night while I slept. Tried to sleep as much as I could the night before.
#2. Exude confidence. See #1. I was so nervous I thought I was like Stan on South Park and that I might throw up on someone. I took piblic speaking the semester before and did a few mock interviews in there - while the questions were totally unlike anything in the interview itself it did help me.
#3 Focus on the Positive. I have an entire semesters of WPs and just as many Cs as As. My GPA does an upside down bell curve - starts high, dips very low, comes back up. I focused on the coming back up - mentioned how I grew up and was ready to get to work after getting some kinks out of my system - brought up life lessons from those years of doing poorly and what I learned from what was going on in my life.
#4 State School - if it is a state school tell them how long your family has been there (mine = 100 years, even if I'd never lived inthe state until August) and that you want to stay forever. Seriously, they want to hear that stuff.
#5 You! They want to know you, they don't want a 4.0 drone. I mentioned my hobby (horseback riding) in my essay - go figure one of my interviewers was a horse person - that didn't hurt. But don't be afraid to crack (classy) jokes or be brutally honest about something if you have to be. Like when they asked me why I want to be a pharmacist and not ride professionally, (this was before I knew the interviewer had horses) I said "because I believe in seperating career and hobbies, but mostly because horse people are crazy!"
Anyway, don't be too nervous, be yourself, look like a million bucks - its money well spent. Girls- don't forget the wonders of a (discrete) push up bra.
