I've read a lot about people saying PR and Kaplan prep didn't help and the MCAT was way different than expected.
I'd like to hear from those who used mostly Exam Krackers, how did it go?

Nothing could prepare me for Shakespeare and human rights passages. My oh my... as for others it was aite, but we'll see in 8 weeks

I was using PRs methods for VR up until wednesday of last week (as in august 11). I then used EKs verbal practice passages and practice tests. my score went up 4 points on average in verbal and I couldn't have been happier.

EK was okay, but it doesn't prepare you THAT well. First of all, two-three of the passages had around 8-9 questions, a la AAMC-style....EK has all the passages with 6-7 questions each.

Nothing can prepare you but tons of reading and tons of passages..but even then.....

I thought EK was great! I used Audio osmosis, the EK verbal book, and EK verbal 101 (I also used kaplan for the sciences).

I was horrible at verbal before I started EK... usually 7-8. By the end of EK I was hitting high 10's and an occasional 9.

So I would recommend EK at least for the verbal.... I guess I might have a diff. opinion when I get my scores back though/... 😉

I was pretty bad at verbal but that 101 EK book, has some really hard passages, so the passages on the real thing didnt seem overwhelming I guess.

I thought Kaplan was quality stuff for the most part. I reserve the right to change my mind though.

I thought EK was A++ but I'll definantly get back to you on that one when I get my results back. 🙂 They definantly covered just about everything on the test (minus some very abstract stuff.. one such question I remember dealing with what type of macro molecule undergoes MutaRotation?). I would say their home study schedule, and overall material is very solid in preparing you for the mcat.

Personal Note: After being on these boards for over a year I finally broke 400 posts! Woohoo! 😎

Yeah EK VR passages i think purposely make the answers nearly ambiguous, making it very difficult when you narrow it down to two. AAMC passages generally have a "clearcut" answer compared to EK. I thought EK was good VR prep...not perfect, but better than kaplan.

I recommend their "16 Mini MCATs" book. It's brand new.

I used the review books, 1001 Questions, Audio Osmosis. There were several questions on my test that caused me to say to myself, "that is exactly what ExamKrackers said they would do". I have to wait to see how my scores turn out, but I had limited prep time and felt that EK was great. I could feel the connection between EK review and the test.

I thought EK was especially good at pulling you out of the details and reminding you of the bigger picture.

I used the EK stuff and can't say much critical about their VR stuff, since I have nothing to compare it to, but after skimming over EK's organic chem book I promptly switched to Kaplan's comprehensive review.

If anyone knows which books were best for orgo, I'd sure like to know, since the passage with the mechanisms and multiple ring structures really threw me for a loop!
